Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

I've never met Cindy or Kimi, actually.

I know Kimi could stumble on that and be hurt terribly. I know Cindy could have the same conversation discretely.

There is no reason to risk pain here.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

I think B'cracy is the safest place to bring this topic up. I'm fairly sure that if kimi is lurking (from the sound of things, it seemed like she just wanted to drop a notice and move on), I doubt she'd check here.

And yes, I do think it needs to be brought up, and I think it was brought up respectfully.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Pseudicide is such a common event on the internet these days that I find it almost a knee-jerk response to want some sort of outside confirmation. I don't think it's disrespectful or cruel.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

I'm also grateful to Cindy for posting that.

Last night, I was upset, and so I googled "Guy Straley" in the hopes of finding an obituary for someone who was dear to all of us. No obituary turned up, which isn't so unusual. So I tried all manner of combinations of "Guy Straley" and/or Wisconsin and/or PhD and/or "Dr. Straley" and/or "Dr. Guy Straley" and/or "G. Straley" and/or university, etc., etc., in the hopes that, if a newspaper obit was no longer online, maybe the Web site of the university he was affiliated with would say something.

I couldn't find anything at all, to indicate that such a person ever existed, let alone died.

Lack of evidence does NOT mean that "Guy Straley"/Gus/Weremonkey didn't exist. But I do find it troubling that nothing is out there.

It probably should be a general board policy that if someone is reported dead, one or more of the stompies should automatically go and look for confirmation without the subject being brought up--just for everyone's piece of mind.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

But I do find it troubling that nothing is out there.

Me too. Especially with such a fascinating story.

"Pseudicide" probably doesn't mean squat to his family. It wouldn't to mine. This thread is a link on the main page.

We're going to reminice. We're going to send money to a charity. If neither one is of interest to whomever they shouldn't do it.

This affects the whole board -- people who are upset, who plan to donate their money to a charity in Guy Straley's name.

I think it would be hard to have this conversation via e-mail with every registered Buffista.

I have found it odd that he is completely ungoogleable.

Our wings are not tired

Whois shows a domain registered in his name, we've linked to it in this thread what, three times now?
