Oh, and I absolutely agree on just doing this by concensus. It seems so stilted to vote about mourning rituals.
Bureaucracy 3: Oh, so now you want to be part of the SOLUTION?

I'd like to make a donation. Does anyone know if his family designated a charity? Usually there's info in an obit (or at least there was for my endo who passed away in November). I'm not even sure how to look for an obit for him.
Yes to the thread, yes to doing it by consensus.
Kat, I started looking through the online editions of some Wisconsin papers for an obit, but it looks like most of them only archive a week's worth of notices; since he passed on the 17th, we may be out of luck (unless someone knows exactly where he lived and what the local paper is). I'm sure kimi knows where he'd want donations to go, and hopefully she'll check back in again.
Thanks, JZ.
What college did he teach at? I think that would be the place to look.
I asked Kimi if she had a suggestion and she (understandably) didn't answer.
For a group gift, let's look for something and have Oxfam as a back up. I like the idea of some family somewhere far away having their lives enriched by Gus who they never actually met.
I can't find any Guy Straley in Wisconsin. So far, I've had no luck finding a Guy Straley Ph.D., either.
Is "Guy" short for something?
