Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

I think a wake thread is a great idea. I've been getting all teary-eyed over the various posts in Bitches, Natter, and Goodbye-Good Riddance, but I'd like to have a more formal place to do it. One to go back to and find it all in one place.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Me too, Sail. I was always happy to see Gus posting and would love to share memories with everyone.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

David, I hate like hell that we need such a thread, but it's a splendid idea, and I'm all for it.

I think it's a great idea, too.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

I'm all for it.

Our wings are not tired.

Opening a thread to share our thoughts and memories of Gus is a fine idea. That, or seeing the memories scattered among the threads, either way works for me. I'd rather not do a lightbulbs vote thing though. Can we just go for a drunken consensus?

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I consense with Laura.

What is even happening?

Personally, I'd put the memorial in the Firefly thread, (because I'd want my own in the Buffy thread), but yes to No Lightbulb discussion/vote, regardless.

Laura is wise.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

I was just coming in to suggest a wake thread!

I think if we opened it for the wake and then left it open for... a few days? a week? the idea wouldn't be to not discuss it everywhere, but to gather together as best we can and honor him specifically in one place.

I'm thinking the wake could begin on the 17th (that's one month after his death) at 5:00 pm board time. We could toast and talk and cry for a few hours. And people who couldn't make it could add theirs later. And after a set time we could close it and our discussions of Gus could return to our every day conversation.

I'd like to organize a donation. I'm thinking Oxfam would be good unless Kimi indicates otherwise or someone else can think of something perfect. I can put something in Beep Me and, depending what the donations come to, pick a critter and take donations until the wake.

Oh, and I absolutely agree on just doing this by concensus. It seems so stilted to vote about mourning rituals.
