Cordelia: I get it now. You're all spies. Probably all Russian. And you've brainwashed me, and want me to believe we're friends so I'll spill the beans about some nano-technology thingy that you want. Gunn: So I look Russian to you? Cordelia: Black Russian. Angel: That's a drink.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

It's a very fuzzy distinction, but I think of this place as a community, and Whedonesque as a fandom news source. It makes me uncomfortable to see our posts treated as news, rather than as parts of a conversation among friends.

It's not about how public or not the board is -- we're none of us ignorant about how the internet works -- it's about something much more intangible, which makes it difficult to defend. I think the only polite thing to do is to ask permission before linking to someone's posts.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Would it make any difference if Joss suddenly posted news about a Spike movie in Bitches and that was Whedonesqued?

Not a challenge, I'm just wondering if Minearverse is being treated differently as a sub-community, like, are there different expectations for different threads?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Not to me. Anyone who's posting stuff here they feel weird about the world seeing is taking a big risk.

Fair enough.

Our wings are not tired

My take on it is that if you think anything here is in any way private, you're fooling yourself.

Well, yes and no. I mean...if Joss came and posted about a Spike movie in Bitches, and suddenly we were deluged there? I'd be startled and probably try to go back and re-read what I've said in the past couple weeks to check myself. Might even delete one or two things. Sure, technically I'm not putting anything out there that I'd die if someone found out, but...

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

And many of us talk about things here that we don't neccessarily expect to be broadcast. Yes, it's a public board and, as such, can be read by anyone. But private things are still discussed.

The things aren't private anymore once they hit the internet, though. They might be close to your heart, but they're out everywhere once posted here.

Not expecting it to be broadcast can't change that. It is broadcast.

True.

Sure. And if say, my parents somehow stumbled on here AND found my posts, I would deal. That said, there is a certain expectation that my parents likely WON"T...and that if someone collected up my posts and emailed them to my parents, I'd still have a right to be pissy about it.

That said, I don't think there's anything wrong with Whedonesque or whoever copying Tim's posts, or mentioning us. And even if that somehow got us mentioned on CNN (to pick a random big mainstream media source), I'd still not be super worried that OMG the words I posted here will be OUT THERE! I'd be more likely to be worried that I couldn't "see" people I want to here because the volume of posting would be too high. :)
