On yes-I'm-a-hardass principle, spoiler threads are for spoilers about stuff that isn't out yet; where else are we going to discuss the leaked script for the seventh film in the series with the hot reaver-on-cylon scene?
Discussion threads are for stuff that's out, although I can certainly agree to a couple of weeks of whitefont in the main thread. Whitefonting forever (or until after DVD release, anyway) would suck, because we know from past discussions that a significant number of people here find whitefont significantly burdensome to read -- I don't think movie thread rules should apply in this case because the movie is the only current release in the 'verse. In the movie thread, you've got to worry about people who want to discuss Corpse Bride but haven't yet seen Forty-Year-Old Virgin, so whitefonting for longer makes sense there.
So, in the dimension where you hold the whip (and that's a good look for you), starting Friday, the FF thread is the all things Firefly/Serenity thread, FF Spoilers closes unless/until there's more to spoil on, and the people who haven't seen it and want to protect themselves stay out of the thread?
eta...
That reads confrontational. It was supposed to read cute. FWIW, I'm completely spoiled for the HSQs in the film, don't care about the series any more, and don't care what we do. I was just tossing ideas at the wall like so much par-boiled pasta.
FF is all things FF/Serenity (although I'd be fine with a short whitefont period -- just not a long one); why close anything?; and people around here are smart enough to know to stay out until they've seen the movie.
eta: also sounding more confrontational than I actually mean to be. My main concern is that shifting people around and repurposing threads when we have a thread for current stuff in the verse will make things more confusing rather than less so.

Gotcha. I was just thinking "Movie talk already in spoilers. Is to stay there?" So I didn't see it as a shift, but it would be a shift in perception.
But why not close FF spoilers once the wf is gone from the regular ff thread? It will serve no purpose unless/until Joss gets serious about a sequel and there are spoilers to discuss.

I agree, but that's a separate discussion that's best left until we first resolve the movie issue.

Seems like a separate issue, requiring votes and stuff -- right now, we're going to have a large number of people coming out of movie theaters on Friday and we need some consensus on where to direct discussion (and if they're not spoiler companions, I doubt they'd think to look there for it).
I don't actually have much of an opinion on closing, especially since I don't know of any leaked Serenity VIII script out there, but as I said, let's deal with the immediate need first.
(edit: or, What Jon Said)
The Firefly spoilers thread has served a purpose during the pre-screening/press screening period for those who saw the movie early and wanted to talk about it. The question of whether there will be another/more FF movie(s) is unresolved at this point.
I'd suggest that until we have word on more movies, we leave FF Spoilers as is, and folks can choose to have blackfonted conversation there, or whitefonted discussion in the Firefly thread for two weeks after release, at which point the main thread goes to blackfont.
ETA: x-posty, natch

I agree with this but I also don't see the need to burden the Serenity discussion in FF with whitefont at all. The show's been off the air for two years; who are we protecting? Discussion of anticipation is perfectly fine in a natter thread.
Yeah, I think no whitefont in the FF thread is fair. The only new thing to talk about is the movie. If you haven't seen it, and don't want to be spoiled, stay out of the thread.
I do not like the idea of having discussion of the same thing in two places at one time, though. Really not.
The problem, IMO, of having the discussion in Spoilers is that people (and by people I mean me) may/will feel the need to read everything other people have said before before posting their (my) thoughts.
Because they were spoilers, then, dammit. The previews were like pre-airing downloadables. I mean, I won't flounce, or anything, but movie discussion in the FF thread makes sense, IMO.
(Why would we need to whitefont, even for a few days? What purpose would people who don't want to read about the movie have to go in the FF thread?)

Yes.
There shouldn't be a choice. There should be a place, so people who are looking to talk know where the b.org talkers are.
Right now, I'm leaning towards a blackfont in the Firefly thread (all things Firefly -- people have been talking about the movie there, Cindy -- it's not just about the TV show right now), and closing of the Spoiler thread.
If you wanted to talk general Buffy but hadn't seen the latest ep -- yous stayed out of the show thread until you were prepared. This is much the same.
Whitefonting some seems like a conciliatory gesture (go team social lube), but is probably overdoing it.
