Unfortunately, the information is public.
Meta-issue, but I don't see that as unfortunate at all. I'm glad I have the right to know who's funding our politicians. Money is so important to our electoral process, and it's nice to know who's behind it. (It's also really useful information for journalists.)
Opensecrets.org provides name, zip and employer, not actual personal data.
It wasn't just the link that bothered me, really, but that there was a specific link to a politicians voting record whom Tim supported. It seemed accusatory and weird.
I know it's public knowledge, but I htink this is a board where peeps reveal as much about themselves as they feel comfortable with. On another board, someone figured out the name of the place I work and posted it without checking with me--and we have rules about not using the name in certain contexts and folks LOOKING for the name online, so I could have gotten in trouble. Even though it's easy to figure out from what I post and info on the place is public, it still was nervous-making.
This is not directed at Jack, BTW, who has edited and is a good guy--just wanted to mention that information about a poster could be public, but still not appropriate for the board.

I didn't take it as accusatory. It was more that he was debunking those two articles that claimed Firefly showed Joss and Tim's political leanings.
Sorry about that post. I'm personally very open about my political views and didn't think it thru how in a large community some would see it as me trying to be a jerk. I now understand how it can be seen as being disrespectful to the executive producers.
When debating politics with a really smart engineer at work, I like the fact that he points out fallacies in my voting and positions, and challenges me to reconsider; but then, we're talking to each other and not about someone else on a Internet message board.
No worries, Jack, really.

That's not the ping, not for me, so much. The ping was that Tim's a Buffista, yeah? Producer second.

This is a very nice response. Thank you.

This was my only qualm. Jack, I think you handled it well. Thanks
ita, am signed up for new DCistas list, but though it shows me listed as an admin, did not get any password. Please to send, thanks?
