I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

Well, okay. Recent discussion has been about Smallville, Stargate (both versions), Battlestar Galactica, and Farscape, according to my memory.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

The 2 (or, I guess 3) big ones that are talked about that aren't there are, IMO, Stargate and Battlestar Galactica.

I understand what you're saying, ita, but I'd rather have the titel reflect reality than have the thread seem to be in denial about its content, given that I don't think pulling BSG and Stargate out would work/happen.

Barring all else, I'd rather see no shows explicitly listed than the current sampling.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I think each time we expand the list, then more attach. I have no confidence in it not becoming a general (or sci-fi) TV thread.

If it is to become that, it's worthy of more discussion, if not an actual vote.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

Holy crap. I can't believe Box Set is ready for another thread. *sniff*

The slug "Discussions of other shows we watch. May contain HoYay." is still pretty accurate. And there's still sporadic Smallville and Farscape discussions, although they seem to be more or less eclipsed by Stargate and the new BSG nowadays. As someone who's been mainly talking about SG on the thread, I think it would be nice if "Stargate" is added to the list of shows, but if others want to keep it the way it is, I've got no problems with that either.

I know we don't talk so much about Due South, but I'd feel kind of weird if dS was to be taken out of the title, what with it being the show for which the Box Set thread (or its spiritual predecessor--my brain being like a sieve, I forget what it used to be called) has been created.

Why? Is it creating a problem the way it is?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

We just decided ad-hoc that the Jossverse thread was fine for all comics and whatnot, right? This feels similar.

Well, it already is sort of a Sci-Fi TV thread; and I don't think we're in danger of turning into General TV thread. By and large, other non-SF show discussions (Veronica Mars, Gilmore Girls, 24, etc.) have been confined to Natter. And I think its evolution into an all-purpose Sci-Fi TV thread has been organic, and has not happened because we were all drunk with power at having a thread and went psychotic with off-topic TV blabber.

It's becoming more unwieldy for me to keep from spoiling myself. If it keeps increasing in scope, it will be unusable for me.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

But what other shows do people talk about that could possibly fall under a general SF TV header?

Yeah, this has been something of a problem. I've been DL'ing the shows from UK broadcast this season, and when you have WF for the aired episodes and the ones for unaired episodes of the same show going on simultaneously, I can see how it can be daunting for those who are unspoiled.

One thing we can do is to make it NAFDA for the shows we are discussing right now--blackfont for anything that's been aired after the west coasters get it, and ask everyone to refrain from commenting on unaired episodes. But that leaves problems with TiVo delay and may be unfair to overseas posters like Jars...
