"Oy Humbug" is my favorite so far, though I like "Well I wasn't expecting that" too.
Of course, I still am vainly in love with "Days of Auld Fang Syne". Hee! (insert image of me giggling like a six-year-old here...just can't resist a pun)

I'm with Kristin.
Of course, it may be the Jewish in me that likes the "Oy" part so much, which is not so much with the non-Jewish holidays, but still.
2004: Well, I wasn't expecting that.
This one.
2004: Well, I wasn't expecting that.
Gets my vote.
2004: Well, I wasn't expecting that.
Gets mine as well, but I won't cry if it's OY HUMBUG or AULD FANG SYNE.
2004: Well, I wasn't expecting that.
This. Oh please oh please, this one.
2004: Well, I wasn't expecting that.
This one for me, too.

I think "hijacked elections", though a sentiment shared by many buffistas, is certainly not one shared universally, and may actually be pretty offensive to people who don't agree.
So, pick an opening rhyme that scans with the existing song lyric, has something to do with 2004, and is guaranteed not to offend anyone on earth. Spirit of christmas, or whatever.
Or, alternately, go with "wasn't expecting that", which is inoffensive to anyone, and amusing.

We do tend to beat stuff into the ground from every perspective, don't we? Some people could have found Natter 30: Piss off, Bitches offensive. (Not to me) But it's true that we can argue the little stuff forever.
As for me, I like "I wasn't expecting that" and "hijacked elections".
