It really doesn't matter. It's just an opinion. Don't worry about it. Not worth the hassle.

I think "hijacked elections", though a sentiment shared by many buffistas, is certainly not one shared universally, and may actually be pretty offensive to people who don't agree.

So, pick an opening rhyme that scans with the existing song lyric, has something to do with 2004, and is guaranteed not to offend anyone on earth. Spirit of christmas, or whatever.

Or, alternately, go with "wasn't expecting that", which is inoffensive to anyone, and amusing.

Sure I went over to the Dark Side, but just to pick up a few things.

We do tend to beat stuff into the ground from every perspective, don't we? Some people could have found Natter 30: Piss off, Bitches offensive. (Not to me) But it's true that we can argue the little stuff forever.

As for me, I like "I wasn't expecting that" and "hijacked elections".

Yep. In fact, when I saw the Natter title, I did blink. But it's a thread name, not the Holy Grail or the Ten Commandments or the fate of the nation, or something. Besides, since I don't post in Natter, it struck me that I had no business complaining about it. I'm only speaking on the 2004 thread because I do expect to post in it. But I'm damned if I want to fight about it, or dissect it. It was a throwaway, off the top of the head suggestion, nothing more.

I'm perfectly happy with "wasn't expecting that".

The status is NOT quo.

"Wasn't expecting that" works great for me too.

Visilurking

I just want to clarify that I didn't mean to say that Deb was being offensive or the phrase "hijacked elections" is any more offensive than "Bush is a moron" or "Kerry is a traitor". Personally, I thought the suggestion was funny. I'm just remembering from not too long ago that there are more than two buffistas who actually, consciously and deliberately voted for the current administration, and putting a statement of opinion in a thread title that inherently criticizes that choice may be the wrong way to go.

I'm good with "wasn't expecting that" too.
