We're all getting played with, babe. -Weird Barbie

She is on crack. When I say "circled the block", I mean on foot. I'm telling you, the girl could get lost in a hallway with no turns or doors.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

Since the Zoo is part of the Smithsonian, is it free as well?

According to their website, yes, it's free. Good stuff.

Up with the sun

Yes, the zoo is free.

I'm kind of worried about the expectations people seem to be building up over it -- it's a *nice* zoo, and you can't beat the admission fee, but the thing about "you get what you pay for" applies more for it than for the rest of the Smithsonian.

OTOH, Pandas!

Punishingly Intricate

I have space in Baltimore for 2 or so if anyone needs it for Thursday. Or any F2F night, really.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Given that other museum-ish expeditions at F2Fs haven't attracted a large crowd -- I think it was 6 or 7 at the Field Museum in Chicago -- I wouldn't worry about a big turnout for the Zoo.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

Timelies!

The zoo is free. It's halfway between two Metro stops and there's a bus stop right at the pedestrian entrance. There are three entrances for cars - one on Connecticut Avenue, just north of the pedestrian entrance (and just south of the Kennedy-Warren (big apartment bldg) garage entrance; one entrance from Harvard Street; and one from Rock Creek Parkway.

It's a pretty good zoo, although there have been some problems. They do have two pandas (no baby panda, though), and they have (or used to have) overhead ropes strung between tall towers for the ourangoutangs to travel around on. And during the summer, they have golden lion tamarins running loose (they're being taught to fend for themselves so they can be returned to their native habitat).

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

They also have a video tape on continuous loop of a giraffe being born that you somehow cannot tear your eyes away from. Gross, yet mezmerizing.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Lyra Jane, is that one person space still open?

eta: oops, I missed Java's post. Let me know if you do want to work something out.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Given that other museum-ish expeditions at F2Fs haven't attracted a large crowd -- I think it was 6 or 7 at the Field Museum in Chicago -- I wouldn't worry about a big turnout for the Zoo.

Seven, in fact. No interest in the zoo here. I lurve the Air and Space museum. Actually, I love the whole Smithsonian. Lots of other things to see on the Mall. There are monuments to visit, the Vietnam Memorial...

Possibly DX as well. (Are Theo & DX coming down together? not sure)

I have my room for Thursday, so I'm good. Theo is welcome to come down with me and Debet and any other peeps coming down from New England on Thursday. (Buffista van o' fun!) We just haven't discussed details yet, which we probably should.
