The major reason for plumping for the gift set of RotK, rather than just the extended, was the Symphony dvd. Which I understood and expected to be a performance, with maybe some commentary and background. It was a disappointment to watch and discover it to be fragments of performances, with much more how-we-did-it than symphony. New Line really needs to release a dvd--or at least a cd--of the complete symphony performed.

Frodo: Please, what does it always mean, this... this "Aragorn"? Elrond: That's his name. Aragorn, son of Arathorn. Aragorn: I like "Strider." Elrond: We named the *dog* "Strider".

Because they haven't squeezed all the discretionary income out of Beverly, Jeff Mejia, Sumi and Kathy Astrom yet?
Hee. Well, I've resisted the action figures, the plastic weapons, the jewelry, the costumes, the chess sets, the snow globes and the lovely Gollum figurine. I can spring for a cd.
I am really interested in how Shore cut and pieced the many hours of music into a cohesive and thematic whole of traditional symphony length. So yeah, I'd love a cd. I know lots of folks would find watching chorus and orchestra boring as hell, but I'd buy a dvd if they'd release one.
Okay, I would too. And I've only bought one action figure -- and it was a gift.
Although, I can't believe that they won't bring out a cd of the symphony -- what I'm excited about right now is the EE soundtrack thingy. . . which I haven't heard anything about for months.
I'd be awfully surprised if a CD of the symphony doesn't come out at some point.
And this time, I'm remembering to Xerox my score. Which, um, I didn't just admit to in public.
(Ooh, how would one go about getting a look at the lyrics?)
Although some of the things in that document are slightly weird. It's got Aragorn's coronation, which is a choral member's solo, in movement 2, and it's definitely not until movement 6.
I'll take a look when I get my score.
Thank you!

Hey!! Well, no, wait--it's a fair cop.
Actually, the only movie memorabilia that I've bought for myself have been the Minas Tirith thingee that came with the RotkEE gift set, a LotR bookmark with ring attached to the tassel, the DVDs, and soundtracks. Everything else was either book-related or given to me. They got enough money out of me with all the tickets I bought to see the films.
Although I will go out and buy the boxed complete soundtrack set when it's released (the one with all 9+ hours of EE soundtrack included).
