I've been out of the abbey two days, I've beaten a lawman senseless, I've fallen in with criminals. I watched the captain shoot the man I swore to protect. And I'm not even sure if I think he was wrong.

LotR - The Return of the King: "We named the *dog* 'Strider'".

Frodo: Please, what does it always mean, this... this "Aragorn"? Elrond: That's his name. Aragorn, son of Arathorn. Aragorn: I like "Strider." Elrond: We named the *dog* "Strider".

A discussion of Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King. If you're a pervy hobbit fancier, this is the place for you.

"Don't think of yourself as an organic pain collector racing towards oblivion." Dogbert to Dilbert

Miramax would have nothing to say about the EE, and in fact has had little to say about the entire prodcution once New Line took over. Once New Line acquired the rights, the only thing Miramax got was some money (for their original investments) and the Weinsteins listed as producers.

It was New Line itself that was rumored to be threatening to go cheap on the EE special effects. Maybe they are trying to maximize profit now that no new LOTR is coming down the pike. All in all, though, it sounds very silly and short-sighted, as do most things that studios say.

My roomie's daughter asked about something in the LOTR game that she didn't see in the movie: "Daddy, where was the Mouse of Sauron?"

If Disney gets their hands on it from New Line, maybe it will be the Mouse of Sauron...or maybe that's what they are calling Michael Eisner?

Raquel--bwah!!

There's a great list of early reports from the set back in 1999 and 2000 here, including a series of reports archived on E!Online.

These mention lots of stuff that didn't make the final cut of RotK, including when Frodo and Sam get shanghaied in Mordor. During one of the breaks from filming this scene, "Astin hulks over to see his wife and three-year-old daughter, who are visiting the set. Astin's daughter happily clambers onto her dad's knee, placing Barbie stickers on his Orc armor, while Jeremy the makeup boy snaps a Polaroid of the two. It's a touching--if slightly offbeat--Kodak moment."

Awww!

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Yeah, Steph, if you're still feeling larcenous and bump into the latter ...

Art Crawl!!!

mmmm, me too.

But my Trilogy poster arrived yesterday!

It's flattening out on my dining room table even as we speak. I'm going to try to find a frame for it over lunch.

What I learned from watching Dom on the Craig Kilborn show last night:

- Dom is indeed very fashion forward. He was wearing like silky scarf thingie that looked like a snake skin and a lovely embroidered shirt. Nice.

- He lost his ID card the night before the Golden Globes and, of course, couldn't get past security because nobody knows who he is.

- Still has no projects in the works but mentioned that it was "pilot season" in LA and he was "talking to people" - he can't want a TV series?? Maybe he was just talking about the series he wants to do with the Discovery channel. I dunno.

- He prefers American girls to British girls. (This statement was made during some blatant attempts to kill the Elijah-and-him-are-gay rumors wherein he managed to wink and smile and say so many affectionate things about Elijah that, of course, he just made it seem more obvious that their love is a pure pure thing).

tina, you're a big old perv. But yeah, as a rumour killer, he wasn't doing a good job.
