LotR - The Return of the King: "We named the *dog* 'Strider'".

Frodo: Please, what does it always mean, this... this "Aragorn"? Elrond: That's his name. Aragorn, son of Arathorn. Aragorn: I like "Strider." Elrond: We named the *dog* "Strider".

Art Crawl!!!

I like the eccentricity -- keeps him from being too Viggo-Sue.

(And yay me with the nice number earlier!)

You can't leave me to my own devices; my devices are Nap and Eat. -Zenkitty

Viggo continues to weird me out. I'm sure he's great, and it's just a me issue, but still.

On the other hand, Billy comes across as incredibly warm and gracious.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

keeps him from being too Viggo-Sue.

See, it makes him precisely Viggo Sue to me.

Back tattoos of the mother is that you are absolutely right - Ame

As mentioned a while back, I gave my daughter the books for Christmas and then stole them back to read. I tore through the first two, but I find myself reading RotK at a snails pace. Even though I know what happens (at least the movie version), I don't want the story to end. I want to read the Scouring of the Shire and know what y'all are talking about, but yet....I don't want to be hasty.

You've got friends to have good times with. When you need to share the trauma of a badly-written book with someone, that's when you go to family.

Andy Serkis will be in Salt Lake on the 14th, doing a reading from the Gollum book and signing things.

I'm going.

I'm just going to sit here quietly and squee.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

He cancelled his Chicago appearance on the 13th due to scheduling conflicts.

Feh.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

Btw, did everybody see Rob in the Get Fuzzy comic strip wearing a WETA t-shirt in the last week?

Okay, I've tried to figure it out, after how many times it's been mentioned, but....what the hell is WETA?

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

what the hell is WETA?

An unusually large insect from New Zealand, or the company that did all the effects for the LotR movies.

(Or the DC-area PBS station)

Thanks for all the fish.

A large cricket. Or, more germaine to the conversation, the special effects company that PJ started and which did the effects for the movies.
