Have you thought about buying one and borrowing the second copy from the library? That way you still keep one when you both are done.
Well, the only way that would work when the goal is to read the book the instant it comes out would be if I were lucky enough to be one of the first twenty or so people to put it on hold. Takes a lot of luck with anything popular.
You could buy two copies, be reeeeaaalllllyyyy careful with one and return it when you're done!

that's a lot of foreshadowing for naught.
