I'm on my never-ending quest for vampire novels that aren't dreadful.
I recommend Christopher Pike's The Last Vampire series. It's young-adult, so you might find some of it dreadful, but it integrates vampire mythology with Hindu mythology, which is just fucking cool.
Jilli, have you read Jon Merz's vampire series? They're not dreadful. They aren't particularly spooky or supernatural, either, sort of vampires with a mafia feel.
I just read Laura Kinsale's newest. It's got to be the best written porn I've ever encountered. The plot was pretty good too.

Hmm? I haven't read them. I'll try and track them down.
(following tangental links on Amazon ...)
Anyone read Candle Bay by Tamera Thorne?
Katerian Bee! I'm finally 2/3 into
Red Thunder
and really liking it, in all its "hey kids, let's build a rocket and go to Mars," ways. Thanks!
In Her Shoes
is as much fun as
Bet Me
IMHO, complete with friends, jobs, elders & other normal things.
Has
Blood Sucking Fiends
ever come up? Christopher Moore, so, kind of a Tom Robbinesque comedic take on vampires in San Francisco, complete with hilarious Marina Safeway midnight frozen turkey bowling. Hmm, published in 1996, I wonder if he was the first to write about frozen turkey bowling.
I saw an interesting vampire collection at the used store yesterday,
Vampire Sextette
(I think). Had stories by Nancy Collins, Tanith Lee, Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, Brian Stableford and two others.

It's a pretty decent collection. If nothing else, it's worth it for the Kim Newman novella, which does a nice bit of satire on Buffy. The Tanith Lee story is good, the Nancy Collins one is okay (if a bit ... similar to everthing else she's written with that character), and I don't really remember anything about the other authors.
Let's see....
Hec, same edition I have. Of course I adore the cover.
These Old Shades
YES! Leonie and Avon. Have you read Devil's Cub? About their son Dominic, Marquis of Vidal? And as has been pointed out above, the Worths (from Regency Buck) and the Avons (in the person(s) of Dominic's granddaughter, Barbara Alastair Childe) intertwine in An Infamous Army, yet another reason to love it.

Nope. I need to track that one down.
