I'm about a quarter of the way into Fats Food Nation and it is a much more enjoyable read than I expected. I haven't really read any sociolgy stuff since college (aside from adoption related things) and I'd forgotten how they get my brain spinning and all riled up to go save the world.
Plus bonus points for use of the word 'mosey'.

The student newspaper at my university recently published the results of their annual writing competition. One of the poetry entries was admittedly made up of words picked at random from the dictionary. Is this poetry? Truly, my 2-year-old niece could have done this! (if I had one that is)

Not javachik
I finished the newest Nevada Barr mystery last night, High Country. I was thrilled to know the area - it's set in Yosemite - and the mystery zips along entertainingly. Anna Pigeon taps into some dark places in her psyche to defend herself, but otherwise the book is free of ruminations about her life and relationships and is very much about the action.
