Xander: Am I right, Giles? Giles: I'm almost certain you're not. Though, to be fair, I haven't been listening.

We're Literary 2: To Read Makes Our Speaking English Good

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

If I only had a brain...

Now this is a tender and moving story.

A Puppy Poo forsaken at the corner of an alley. Everyone avoids it saying "Dirty Poo!" One drizzing spring day, Puppy Poo meets a young dandelion plant who needs fertilization. Puppy Poo joyfully breaks itself down and soaks into the root of dandelion. This self-sacrifice finally blooms a dandelion bud into its full glory. A moving and lessonful story illustrated by Sung-gak Chong.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Now this is a tender and moving story.

I think I know what's causing your migraines, Betsy. The interpipe itself is hurting your head.

Meanwhile, back at the Hall of Justice...

The student newspaper at my university recently published the results of their annual writing competition. One of the poetry entries was admittedly made up of words picked at random from the dictionary. Is this poetry? Truly, my 2-year-old niece could have done this! (if I had one that is)

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Is this poetry?

According to William Burroughs.

Not javachik

I finished the newest Nevada Barr mystery last night, High Country. I was thrilled to know the area - it's set in Yosemite - and the mystery zips along entertainingly. Anna Pigeon taps into some dark places in her psyche to defend herself, but otherwise the book is free of ruminations about her life and relationships and is very much about the action.

Art Crawl!!!

Are you guys familiar with a vampire book that features a new vampire who is obsessed with finding her collection of shoes that had been disbursed by her family when she died?

(A friend of mine mentioned it to me, but she couldn't remember the title - it sounds both funny and wrong-headed.)

We're all getting played with, babe. -Weird Barbie

Could someone tell me the name of the first Nevada Barr Anna Pidgeon book? I've never read that series, and I love great mysteries with strong female protagonists.

Kristin, I'm not sure this is the exact order, but from the front fly of Hunting Season:

Bittersweet
Track of the Cat
A Superior Death
Ill Wind
Firestorm
Endangered Species
Blind Descent
Liberty Falling
Deep South
Blood Lure
Hunting Season

Anna Pigeon is a park ranger, so all of these are set at various national parks, which I adore, having been to many, but not all. And she's flawed but strong, which appeals to me. Parestsky got me the same way with Vic, thoug I think I like Anna even better.
