I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

Yeah, there's debate as to whether that's intentional. I wouldn't be surprised, frankly.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I just watched episode 13 of Stargate and I admit, it was fun. So I'm not as mad at them as I'd been thinking I'd need to be. It was more in line with old school Gate, and not just because (ita gets all buttery and weak) Jack went offworld. It was a rhythm thing. Unfortunately the mental refrain of "Does Wayne Brady have to choke a bitch???" was very loud, and somewhat distracting. But added to his impact.

So -- fun, and now I have to re-watch the Atlantis episode with the time travel and see if it's the same device. Yay! SG1 has a puddle jumper!

Hee. Jack! Offworld! Pointing a gun! *sigh* It was fabulous. And he was so happy about it!

Because I am an immense dork who's just coming out of the Christmas season, the "comfort and joy" thing made me fall over giggling.

Hmm. I finished DLing that last night. I could watch that right now.

Especially after your spoilery tidbits.

Oh, and the thigh holsters were in FULL effect. That certainly doesn't hurt.

And now I have. That was amusing. Some cute character bits, especially Jack offworld. But don't look too closely at the plot, like the Jaffa who could read and translate Ancient as easily as Daniel, and yet was apparently no more than a footsoldier. I wasn't entirely thrilled with the easy redemption of Harry Maybourne. I like him better when he's trouble.

But there wasn't any evidence that the Jaffa understood what he was looking at, beyond that it was in the language of the Ancients -- it was never translated. And that had been precisely the fear -- that they'd come and see it, and subject the planet to further scrutiny.

The constant repeats make it hard to be sure where one's left off in a particular through line, but I'd thought that Maybourne was redeemed in his previous episode. Am I remembering it too warmly?

I think you are, ita. In Paradise Lost, Harry scams Jack into getting him to this abandoned planet that he thinks is a Utopia, but the Goa'uld had been there before. At the end, Jack cuts Harry some slack (despite Harry having tried to kill him) and arranges for the Tok'ra to find him a safe place.

Mind you, that safe place was supposed to be a planet without a gate. Anyway, there really wasn't any redemption there. Jack was a real softy and did Harry a huge favor.

And about the Jaffa, just seeing a tablet with old writing on it -- why would they instantly go running around in the jungle looking for people? I mean, Harry was there for two years, and never thought to do that. It was a forced dilemma.

But Jack! Offworld! Harry waving flowers at people! Guango! What can I say? I'm easy. (Except for bouncing hard off of Harry reading Ancient. The thing with the Jaffa didn't bother me at all, though you make a good point, but Harry? Since when?)
