Boxed Set, Vol. 1: Smallville, Due South, Farscape
A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much anything else that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Hee. Consuela, dude, you are set.
I saw 11 and liked very much. OK, and
REALLY REALLY DANGEROUS. DO NOT TOUCH -- McKay
cracked me up. That, and
"He'll be the one getting rid of the other dots."
was also good. I'm sorry, but I'm seeing
Sheppard/Weir.
Am I supposed to be? I don't know. But I am. Also, I am not happy about
curly-cue girl not going back through the gate. I don't like her.
And speaking of which, Teyla is a dummy and should have
shot curly-cue when she lowered her gun to aim it at Beckett. The knife fight
was lame.
ETA: It's spelled Sheppard? I am having trouble remembering that.
Teyla is a dummy, that seems entirely clear even without having seen the ep yet.
And you know? I'm deeply tired of the loose-hair thing with women in action shows. I don't care about the stunt doubles, and I'd like to point out that Claudia Black managed quite fine (um, after the first season), and if I am not mistaken, she did all her own stunts.
Loose hair in the middle of a melee is just frelling dangerous, unless you have a compelling cultural reason for it. (Like the old Irish warriors who wore it loose to taunt their enemies, because it was traditional to take their heads and loose hair made it easier to display the heads.)

I don't know any women who'll even spar with loose hair, much less fight for their own life or someone else, given time to prep. But I do let it slide because precisely because of the stunt double masking thing.

That is awesome.
Oh, could NOT agree more with you about the hair. I have to put my hair back to think sometimes. If I had to fight? Please. I mean, it gets in your eyes. Which, kind of a problem, unless your all "Luke, the force will guide you," which I am not.
But I do let it slide because precisely because of the stunt double masking thing.
I know I'm supposed to. But it's easier to let it slide for Buffy, because of the fashion thing -- it's part of her character -- than it is for Teyla, who's supposed to be all Cultural Warrior Woman. Hell, they even gave her bangs in her face!
At the very least I need a fanwank for it.
I can't climb without my hair pulled back, and it's not like it's long now. Although having it short makes it harder to pull back, and I grouse a lot about missing my ponytail.

Maybe her people never invented scrunchies?
Gotta agree with folks about the hair thing. It works for Buffy because of context, and there's also the sense that she can win most fights one-handed while juggling her purse and cellphone. But barring that sort of setup, the only people who should be going into a fight with hair obscuring their faces are creepy Japanese ghost women.
For me, it's like the alien language barrier. The less you refer to it, the better. It's just one of those things you have to do to give my show because of meta/complex reasons.
If every single show with a fighting woman gave me an excuse for why they'd have to hide the stuntperson, I'd go nuts.
I'm already annoyed about the convulsions to hide the guys, and they seem to do more of their stunts, on average.
I just saw Atlantis 1.13, "Hot Zone".
Wow, Mckay's getting almost
Wesley-like character development.
And since no one here has claimed him, he's mine! ALL MINE! MWHAHAHA!!!
Dude. That was a good episode, reminiscent of some fine early standalone episodes of SG-1. I liked it better than "The Eye", the
badass Shep
episode.
Umm, are you sure that nobody's claimed McKay?
Because he is one of the favorite characters on that show.
And curse all of you, torrenting Aquarium/Spooks watching peeps!
