I thought there was pretty much no way they could get out of it, and yet, I personally think they pulled it off just fine. Mostly because they did one of the things they do best -- ::handwavy::handwavy::
Plus another thing Farscape does well - it was wicked gross. Probably a record for getting a vomitting scene in that early

Oh, Crais, good point. I dunno. I've never felt--and you were more immersed in the show than I was, but still--that Farscape was a show that liked to close down options, end of the show or no end of the show. They like to torture their characters; their characters often have real emotional responses to what they've been through; but I'd still be surprised if Chiana/Rygel/D'Argo/Aeryn died permanently. Scorpius, maybe; it'd make sense to me if John died, too, though it doesn't seem terribly likely.
I totally got the gang rape vibe, too. And I agree that it was very reminiscent of stealing Pilot's arm.
I think Chiana and D'Argo are not off the table.
I agree. That would really bring the pain. And for the reason DCJ cites, I think Rygel is not off the table, either.

Also in grand Farscape tradition, part one not only brought the pain, it brought the disgusting goop.
I'm a little lost -- does being "off the table" mean you think they will die, or they won't? What's the table?
I think the way 'Suela and I have both been using it, by "on the table," we mean "prime candidate for painful, angsty death."
Okay, got it. Table = death.
"on the table" is sometheing that is actionable. For instance, it likely comes from auctions, as you bid for something when they bring it up to the table or dais and is presented for auction.
Now I'm curious to know if I'm right, time to Google, be right back.
Some cites seem to indicate it's derived from "Putting all your cards on the table" so far. Hmmm.
ETA: Either way, the whole gist is that something is under consideration and/or up for discussion when it is on the table.
