Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

I'm all about the apparently platonic. Here's where I start projecting hard: a relationship between two people who are incredibly fond of each other, and in another situation that would quite probably spill over into naked sweaty humping. However, it doesn't, and they pretty much have made peace with that. Without quite moving on, have made other intimate attachments, and have certainly done nothing improper with each other. It's just that the fondness? Leaks out sometimes--especially in times of stress. They're human. There's also a bit of yearning, but that's moved past with varying amounts of success.
I have nothing to add, subtract or even introduce. Just loved how this was said.

I just saw the Smallville finale. Good God, but they managed to pack a huge amount in there, didn't they? I can't help but think they're setting themselves up for a fall with the next season's premiere. Also, why could Lana not have been exploded? Maybe whilst on the plane? She could have created a soft pink rain of love that turned all the Smallville mutants into puppies.

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

Snerk. I caught, like, the last 5 minutes of the Smallville finale, and have absolutely no idea what was happening.

Still, among the many old Superboy tropes I wish they would drag out, I very much want them to hit the one where Lana Lang is turned into a super heroine called "the Insect Queen," complete with turning into sort of a human-sized centaur bumblebee.

I'd watch it.

an overblown libretto and a sumptuous score/ could never contain the contradictions I adore

Me too! Also, the one where he gets turned into a girl.

How would we tell the difference?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

How would we tell the difference?

Lex loses interest.

There's no Hewitt Wolfe episode -- it's a Miller/Stentz ep.
