Boxed Set, Vol. 1: Smallville, Due South, Farscape

A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much anything else that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Oooh. New ones to look at today. I thought Bed and Airhead (I know, Jack's not dumb; this vid cracked me up but good, though) on Rhian's site were great. He's just got these expressions, and Daniel with his exasperation. It works. Plus, I find the song catchy in a fun, fluffy way.

I also found a French one (there's an English version, too), which goes through Sam's past loves and their fates (complete with dripping blood font onscreen and Exorcist music), casting her as the Black Widow ... the execution is far from perfect, but parts of it made me laugh. I can probably find that link again if someone wants.

Davis is sort of striking in that they made him an all-around decent guy who just happens to be not a main characters. Most tertiary characters are either SGC staff (Good Guys but not much personality) or NID (Classic Bad Guys). Davis is supportive, non-threatening, and non-chummy. He's comfortably in his beta-dogness. So... he's sort of Mary Sue-like, in that he (alone of the AF personnel we've seen outside the SGC) gets to respond rationally rather than stereotypically to things.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Oh, the Cantina is almost as bad as Get Off. It's the transitions that send it over the top.

Poor Teal'c.

I can't wait to get home and look at Rhian's.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

I'm thinking he's more like a designated side-kick. You've got four leads. Every now and then one of them needs a side-kick.

Wow. I love Maybourne grinning over his shoulder with "scum and villainy". That was so cool.

Oh man, that was beautiful. Hee, hee. Jonas is one of the strangest creatures you've ever seen-a.

Aw, man. I totally never got the Daniel/Janet thing. All of a sudden the "You Must Love Me" vid's got me all weepy over it.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

Oh yeah. Poor Jonas. t snickers

Plus, Siler as R2D2! And Thor! And the expression on Daniel's face at "Luke's had a really lousy day" kills me. Oh! And the shot of Jack sprawled on the bed in the infirmary. Hee hee.

I totally never got the Daniel/Janet thing.

It's vaguely annoying when the shippers use it to pair him off with Janet so that Jack and Sam could be in twue wuv 4evah, but when I think about "Meridian", the one thing that hit me the hardest was Janet's reaction to Daniel's death. Ditto Daniel's to Janet's death in "Heroes". Plus, there were all that lovely bits between Janet and multiple-personality!Daniel from "Lifeboat", which I don't see personally as subtext-y but can be read that way if you are so inclined.

I have read a few decent Daniel/Janet fic. My favorite is probably cgb's Echoes of An Empty Place, which is set in 2010-verse. (Because I am so that episode's bitch.) I used to go, "OK, terrible, awful, slow-annihilation-of-species badness, but at least Daniel was alive in that universe.". Now Daniel's alive, but Janet is gone.

Damn, now I'm depressed. I really loved Janet.

Pam S., at Versaphile. "Dead" is really funny too.

Heh, heh. Those were funny -- that TMBG album is one of my favorites, so I particularly enjoyed Dead. And his head actually did fall off - ha!

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I'm making notes for downloading when I get home tonight.

I'm dying to do a vid based around the "1969" episode to The Chocolate Watchband's "Are You Gonna Be There (At the Love In)" because what says Stargate more than authentic psychedelic rock?
