it'd be gauche to discuss ME shows here
Kinda figured that much. =)
Now, when I get an urge to discuss early Six Feet Under eps, or My So Called Life, or Arrested Development (so funny...), or Joan of Arcadia (and i get these urges fairly regularly) I know where to go. =)
Although, actually, I should make a disclaimer -- I didn't take part in the somewhat-heated (I hear) discussions which resulted in this thread's taking the place of separate threads. It may well be that there are rules and I just don't know them. That happens to me a lot. But I probably shouldn't be offering advice.
Joan of Arcadia shows up here semi-regularly (also in Natter once in a blue moon). There are enough Arcadians here that you'll not be talking to an empty echo, anyway.
Yeah, there was a fair amount of resistance to this being a general TV thread, and it's not really designed for that.
A lot of shows get talked about in Natter. Alias, Arrested Development, etc.
Yes, but what was it designed for? I'm unclear.
It was designed to smoosh together the space opera & hoyay threads.
This thread? As a combination of the Smallville, dS, and Farscape threads. Things like Stargate and Highlander are sort of grandfathered in, since they were topics of discussion in the dS thread already.
People's concern over a general TV thread was both in terms of the volume it could generate and in the nightmarish spoiler rules we'd need.
So, like, sci fi OR slash? I'm just trying to get it clear, because every time I come up with a unifying theme I realize it doesn't really work.
There is no unifying theme, Emily. Just enumerated shows, basically, and a bit of drift.
Clearly I don't have a problem with it, being all over the SG & FS & SV & dS and, well, not really watching anything else (actually, my rule is something like "If shrift or Dana write it or rec it"*). But it seems like newcomers will always trip over it. Whichever.
(* Plus Stargate. Yeah, that doesn't work either. But I think they should write it.)
(So really my actual rule is something like, "whatever I want to discuss, and then there's some stuff other people talk about that I skip over.")
