Jack does smile, and his flippancy is hiding his wounded core.
He'd laugh at you if you mentioned "wounded core" in his presence.
Plus, why is he wounded? Charlie's death, yeah, but he seems to be dealing with that at this point.

What I like about Jack is that he's a career military guy, hardened Special Ops soldier, etc. who quite frequently acts like he's about twelve.

To me, he's hysterical HonorableWarriorDude. Between his recurrent intonation of "Indeed" and my current favourite of "I have nothing to apologise for" as he walks smugly offscreen at the end of Upgrades -- he cracks me up.
Love life would be appalling though. As would mine with Daniel. Sam and I would be hampered with both being straight.
