It's a remora, dimwit.

Yeah, they always seemed to find a convenient field. Maybe their sort of physics abhors things like oceans and cars and brick walls.

Well, heck, Connie Willis's version of time travel actually locked out landings that were dangerous to the traveller (or important events in time). I kind of liked that. It so neatly did away with all those niggling "reality" type questions.

And with Stargate they've got the fact that they're just going from gate to gate, so unless the gate they're travelling to was built in the middle of a busy highway, it's pretty much guaranteed safe. (Though just once I'd like to encounter a gate that had been sealed from the other end with planks of wood or drywall or some crude barrier with lots of "Go Away" signs on it.)

Those would be the ones where the seventh chevron won't engage. Or, I guess, where the MALP is lost without ever sending back any information.

God, I'm such a big geek. Such a big, honking geek.

I thought that only kicked in if the other gate itself was damaged.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Well, they do bury them on occasion, and the SGC has their iris.

They have had somewhat dangerous exits, usually when the Stargate has fallen on its side. Step through and fall flat on your face.

I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

I want to see the thing as a tourist attraction sometime. I mean, come on! There's this big ring sitting in the middle of a field, and no one's treating it like Stonehenge?

Or if it's buried, I think. Basically, if there isn't room for the big "whoosh" thing, maybe? But also (for the lying flat thing) that's what the MALP's for.

Besides, I didn't think the gates got damaged.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I think the big bloopy wave from the gate destroys anything it touches.

Wasn't that used in an ep once, when they sent Teal'c underground?

Yeah. "100 Days", wherein Jack got trapped on an alien world and nearly married, but pretty much said "See ya!" as soon as it was possible for him to leave.

I think the bloopy wave did away with some stuff (or maybe melted it) and didn't Sam build a particle beam emitter or something like that to melt a big enough space for Teal'c?
