Simon: Captain's a good fighter, he must know how to handle a sword. Zoe: I think he knows which end to hold.

"In the equation E = mc⬧, c⬧ is a pretty big honking number." - Scola

So I just watched Farscape's "Taking the Stone" for the first time and I was, er... a little confused. Was it just me, or the accents, or something, or was it really kind of unclear what the heck was going on?

You think you were confused? I had to watch it muted!

I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

Honestly, that might've been easier. Then I could've just made up my own plot, you know?

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Then I could've just made up my own plot, you know?

Chiana joins the circus?

Chiana joins the circus?

Sure! Winter quarters, you know. They're practicing. The part where they splat at the bottom is really just a very sophisticated mime performance.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Oh -- this is the one with the falling?

I think I understood it just fine, unless understanding is meant to imply not hating it with a passion.

In the WashPost TV chat someone said this:

Smallville, Va.: Actually, I'm a fan of the show along with my 10-year-old son. I see it as a training ground for him to be a teen, deal with angst and the idea of being different from others. But how long can this type of show last? One more season? How long can 20-somethings look like high schoolers?

I'm shocked. THIS is a good plan???

It's a remora, dimwit.

I think she means that she's trying to raise her son to be gay, so that when the time comes, she won't be losing a son, she'll be gaining another son.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Well, I suppose she has a point -- I mean, it really is all about learning to deal with the fact that you're different from the other kids....

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

I think she means that she's trying to raise her son to be gay, so that when the time comes, she won't be losing a son, she'll be gaining another son.
Preferably Lex.

But Clark's an idiot. As a "how not to" it's a pretty good object lesson, I suppose.
