Doesn't winter seem more like archiving season?

Atlantic Canadian Monday Madness

[NAFDA] We used to get Buffy the day before everyone else, now we get Angel a week after everyone else. And Firefly every Monday!

Hello! I must be going.

Hi Canadians! Did anybody see this interview with Naomi Klein in this week's NY Times Magazine?

It seems to tie into that famous Robertson Davies observation that America was the rebellious, flashy, noisy daughter of England while Canada was the good quiet girl who stayed at home. Or, as a friend of mine once said, being Canadian must be like living next door to the Simpsons. I shot back that living next to Canada is like living next to the Flandereses, but he'd made his point.

Socks are a running theme throughout the series. They are used as symbols of freedom, redemption and love.

Elena, I'll be sure to drop them off on Friday. Even if they won't play in your DVD player, you can watch them on the computer. If our %^&$# sound card worked, we would have already have seen them. *sigh*

Thanks for all the fish.

Would I need a DVD drive in my computer? Because I don't have one.

A person's concepts should exceed their vocabulary, or what's a metaphor?

Windows Media Player should handle them just fine. If not (depending of the drivers and codecs you have installed, don't recall if S/VCD was a plug in or part of the MP), repeate the process described above to copy them to your hard drive and watch it from that.

Thanks for all the fish.

My ear is infected - the piercing, I mean. It's hot and swollen and sore and all full of blood and pus. Very unpleasant.

Megan, FayJay is looking for information about teaching in Canada. What kind of need is there for elementary teachers in NS?

Megan E. - Jul 09, 2003 4:33:17 am PDT #2848 of 6793

I just posted in Bitches - unfortunately NS has an overwhelming glut of elementary teachers and most boards hire elementary teachers off their substitute lists.

It's also hard for teachers trained outside of Nova Scotia, never mind Canada, from getting certification in NS. Too bad - I think a Fay is sadly missing in our teaching ranks.

Is it a new piercing, Elena? Peroxide it as often as possible. (But you probably know that.) Problems with infection is one of the reasons I no longer have pierced ears...

Thanks for all the fish.

It's not a particularly new piercing. I had it done in February. It's just infected for no reason I can think of.

Megan, I just saw that, thanks for posting.

Did you guys hear the rain last night? Whew! It cooled things done for a bit, but now it seems muggy. On the upside, my strawberries are ripening.

Did you see that Space is going to be running Firefly in its ENTIRETY in PROPER ORDER starting Sept 8th?

Oh, crap - Megan, is it this Friday that Farscape starts fresh? At 10?

Hey Sue, is the office struck by election madness or has everyone stopped working altogether since it could all be in vain?

Elena, this is a good link for general information about teaching in Canada, qualifications, etc.

[link]

It seems, from my friends who are teachers that the easiest places to get hired are private schools and remote places that have trouble attracting staff. (But those remote posts are often very challenging.) Everyone I know in education started their first position either in one of those situations or as a substitute.

My neighbor worked last year (as a school pschologist) in two 50% positions, which were themselves shared between different schools. I think she was at least two different schools every day.
