Giles: I jump out of the circle, jump back in, and, and, shake my gourd. Buffy: Hey, I think I know this ritual. The ancient shamans were next called upon to do the Hokey-Pokey and to turn themselves around.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

He could've just run into a random evil red-blooded demon. I don't need an explanation for it.

Yeah, I can live with that. But it does make me wonder if he's not telling everything.

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

Here's a small but important bit that slipped last night: earlier, First!Jonathna sais he was one with light and hope. Last night, First!Jonathan said he was in a place of pain and torment (or some such.) What this means is that the First can and does lie.

Our wings are not tired.

Well, Evil you know.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

Does anyone here know if Anya is living with Buffy? And Xander? I am confused!

It looked that way in this ep, which I hadn't thought was the case before now. It's kind of strange if she is.

Edit - looked like Anya was living there, I mean. Not Xander.

Ii think everyone is staying there in order to help protect the SIT from the Bringers. They're in siege mentality and have circled the wagons...

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

I think everyone is staying there in order to help protect the SIT from the Bringers. They're in siege mentality and have circled the wagons...

Except they're all going on dates and stuff. Giles was right about that.

Yeah, I liked Giles kicking them in the proverbial pants.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Just saw it, and can't wait until tonight to say it.

Oh. My. Freaking. God. The Weapon Collection!!!!!

I'm gonna die now.

Just saw it. Am rather alarmed at seeing that I share with Elena the love for this episode. Am I going to start hating Willow too? Please no.

(Willow couldn't do anything in "Older and far away" because she was in magic-detox mode at that moment!!!! Sheesh).

Okay, I'm done.

I was first a bit thrown at the initial sequence too, until I thought of it in more detail. Of the two main controversial points in it:

  • Skipping Buffy's Big Angsty Decision-Making scene about whether to dechip Spike or not was actually a good idea. We didn't really need to see it, some people are already groaning at the thought of more Spuffy...

  • As for Giles, it makes sense indeed if you think of the whole thing as a practical joke played on us, the too-obssesed viewers. What I don't know is whether I liked being played like that.

Other than that, the rest of it was just great. Trademarked Espenson funny writing, with throwaway gags that are just brilliant (Giles showing the sketches and saying "this is not a joke!!!! This is going to happen!!") (and, speaking of shout-outs to the fans: "Hush" anyone?), and the Andrew redemption that I had been expecting. I was waiting to see how could they inject some actual drama in such a shallow character; well, I completely bought the moment that FE!Jonathan shows him the consequences of his actions. That scene might be the equivalent to the one in "Dead things" where Katrina wakes up and shows the trio the reality of what they were trying to do.

I'm kinda bummed at the idea of the Principal being good after all, but I did like the idea of him being Nikki's son. I'd like the idea more, though, if I didn't suspect that it's a recycled storyline from "Angel" (Holtz anyone? I don't watch "Angel", so I'm not really sure if that's true).

I did like Spike and Buffy in this episode. That kind of relationship is the perfect one for them: best friends who have gone through a lot together, with no angst (or just carefully concealed angst) and no more romance. And I did like Spike's practical, "I'm fine" attitude.
