"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

That just made me wonder... was Doyle the first friend Angel made since he (mostly) stopped being evil?

well, there was Whistler. and I seem to recall something about how they wanted Whistler for the series, but the actor was in rehab or something?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

the actor was in rehab or something?

Oh, the irony.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I didn't get the sense that Whistler was someone Angel would have palled around with at the local pub... the guy gave him a much-needed kick in the ass, but there didn't seem be any love lost between them.

I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve. - John Prine

"Is that it? Am I done?"

This. And even more so hearing it again in "You're Welcome" -- just finding out that Angel had kept that tape all that time wrecked me all over again.

And the whole meta-circumstances of poor, dumb Glenn Quinn. Very sad.

I find Buffy's response to Faith in "Consequences" very moving. The words couldn't be simpler, but she sounds so desolate.

Faith: In the balance, nobody's gonna cry over some random bystander who got caught in the crossfire.

Buffy: I am.

ED always did a great job of conveying Faith's doubts underneath all the bravado. Even though she's telling Buffy in no uncertain terms in that scene that what happened doesn't bother her you know that it's killing her. That element of character and performance culminated in a scene that wrecks me, the amazing fight between Faith and Angel in "Five by Five" in which she breaks down and begs him to kill her (and which is so beautifully echoed in "Darla" when Angel tries to get Darla to kill him: "Too much of a coward to end your own existence, you want me to do it for you?")

What is even happening?

the actor was in rehab or something?

Oh, the irony.

I want to say I heard the Whistler actor was in prison at the time, not rehab, but I could be completely wrong.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

I think he was in prison on drug-related charges. I think.

Been a while.

Always Anti-fascist!

While he was on H:LOTS, he did a very stupid thing and locked himself in the apartment he was about to be evicted from, with a gun. I think maybe court-ordered rehab?(Might have been even worse if the technical advisor Major D'Addario hadn't spoken up for him as a character witness.) Or maybe there were seperate instances.

If ME was responsible for saying why he couldn't, Max may have been eating babies for lunch -- they're circumspect that way.

Okay, despite Fury-rumours, they probably wouldn't hire a baby-eater.

Were you responding to me? I was just snarking on Fury's snarly rep.
