Always Anti-fascist!

The Wire, too. Which saved my suburban whitey ass trying to watch it.

No other candidate is asking the hard questions, like "Did geophysicists assassinate Jim Henson?" or "Why is there hydrogen in America's water supply?" --defective yeti

A question about something in that literate Buffy thread Jim linked to -- one poster said,

in a S7 episode, one minor character begins to quote Invictus when the building he's in explodes - obv. reference to Oklahoma City, but only to the clued-in).

What's Invictus, who's the character, and what's the quote?

I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

Invictus is the poem with "I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul." I assume he's talking about what's-his-face the Watcher who gets killed when Watcher HQ explodes; I don't remember what exactly he was saying (though if I had to guess I'd say it was the above, since I believe that's the best-known line from that poem).

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I'd guess the character was Travers, before the Watcher's Council blew?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Invictus is a poem. But I don't know who quoted it, and which line.

What is even happening?

I thought it was a crime that the 99 episode previouslies that appeared at the beginning of The Gift weren't on the Season 5 DVD. I know they use little bits of it here and there on the DVD, but that was wonderful, and I'm still terribly disappointed.

I would like the previouslies, because Giles voices them over, and because I don't always watch episodes in order. I'll pick an episode based on my mood. Seems like they could at least include them and rather than a person *having* to see one, s/he could choose it from the menu. Feh.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

I'd guess the character was Travers, before the Watcher's Council blew?

I'm pretty sure Travers said something like "We are the masters of our fate...." only to be interrupted by an earthshattering KABOOM.

What is even happening?

Is it just me, or does that scene never get old?

JohnSweden - Dec 08, 2004 7:20:52 am PST #9619 of 10001
I can't even.

It isn't just you, but I seem to remember you have strong Quentin issues.

I'm much more ambivalent about the Watcher's Council and more about the War on Demons (tm) than many, so I see the destruction of the WC as a bad thing. Plus, Harris Yulin has a James Earl Jones-level voice. I hate to see a good antagonist go.

Mr. Scola’s wardrobe by Botany 500

Who Anyaed that episode?

I still laugh over the "Our tweed shall be as steel!" line.
