with a gleam in my eye, and an almost airtight alibi

Smallville is either their top-rated or their second-best rated show. Angel has *never* performed well in reruns. Which one would you have picked, if you were a network exec?

Angel, just because I would have waited for Smallville Beginnings until after the 3rd season. Smallville really doesn't need any help on ratings and I think it was their number 1 show for the season. Seems to me I remember that it was "7th Heaven" at the beginning of the season and then switched over to "Smallville". Granted I like both Smallville and Angel, but I would give a show that struggles in the ratings any kind of boost or support I could come up with.

I can't remember what the WB did end up deciding for their Sunday night lineup now that "Fearless" has been pushed back to midseason. I thought it was Everwood easyview, Fearless easyview, and Smallville beginnings before the primetime lineup of Tarzan and Charmed. Now I wonder what will replace Fearless easyview? Probably One Tree Hill easyview.

Edited to add: I am pleased to announce that Pepsi Smash is sucking ass in the ratings this Summer. Last week got a 1.4/2!!! I think an Angel rerun could muster that and wouldn't cost to get all those bands and guest hosts. But I am sure Pepsi is probably footing that bill. Then again the Smallville rerun that night also got a 2.2/4 so it is probably just no one is watching the WB during the summer.

A show that has NEVER performed well in reruns, you would give an entire season's worth of reruns to? Congratulations; you've just lost your job.

This is why it gets the "Beginnings" slot. Which has previously gone to Seventh Heaven and The Gilmore Girls. They're not looking to help shows with this gimmich, they're looking to consolidate (and wring everything they can out of) hits.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

I wonder if, in a way, Buffy reruns are a way of promoting Angel. Depending on if they do any promotion during the breaks. Show the backstory and the history of the character before you start a season. Then you can win both ways. Buffy fans will stick around for both. People who only heard about Buffy round about seasons 4or later can tune in and get the Angel backstory and maybe give his show a chance.

Exactly why I am not a network exec. I get too behind something I believe in or love to think about the money side of things.

Kind of makes me wonder why I am still financially alright with the world after all these years...

Strawberry disappointment.

Can't see many viewers sticking around for Angel if they've just watched DB acting in the S1 of Buffy.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Yes, but we're not the coveted teenage viewers who might me enticed by the S1 romantic lurker stalker boy.

And what's more romantic than being stalked by a guy in a frilly shirt and eye-liner?

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

The only way it could be more romantic is if he had a parrot on his shoulder.

Unfortunately, in this case, the only things on his shoulders were pads.
