My sisters went to Connecticut College. The top floor of the dorms had maid's rooms.

Sharing a room was weird. I only did it that one quarter to keep my friends from losing their dorm space when two of the people there dropped out.
Icky.
Having my own room was MUCH better.
I cannot imagine sharing a room with any of the people I shared a floor with. Even the ones I liked. That door was very important.
Sharing a bathroom with 16 people was traumatic enough.
My boys will be staying in the Syracuse University dorms week after next. I will give a full report. They are also mad at me for making them room with each other instead of strangers. Oh well.
I miss having my own space. Of course, if I didn't have a rommate, I probably wouldn't leave the building.
I don't know how I survived 4 years of a roommate. Really.
There are days when I miss having an apartment-roommate, but that's different, because we aren't sleeping in the same cell-like space.
Most days, though? I love living alone. My entire apartment is one big nerd-hole.

This made me laugh... where's Rio when you need her? Steph, I do think living alone rocks.
I'm not so good with roommates, because I'm cranky and need my space. But I do wonder if it's much harder now than it was 40 years ago for college students to adjust because most of us have never shared a room with someone. Ever.
Though all three of my friends kids currently share one bedroom. I bet they'll make great college roommates.
I shared a room with my sister until I was about 15. I'd even share with her again, under slight duress.
Strangers? Nah.
because most of us have never shared a room with someone. Ever.
I was really worried about this when I came to school, and though it's been okay thus far, I have my doubts about being given a randomly selected roommate come this fall. What I'd really like to do is get an apartment off campus, but that's about as possible as my roommate having Keanu Reeves' children.
Strangers? Nah.
And yet you shared a room with Allyson?
I had some good roommates and some Kathy-like roommates. Then I lived alone my final semester of school and that worked best. But was damned expensive. Yet still slightly cheaper than the dorm.
