For anyone who's interested, I was sent this link to the Weekly Standard's take on the demise of BtVS. Not spoilery, I think. It actually came out before the final ep, and he does the whole 'ten best' thing. Located here (I had to go through the main page to reach the article, but didn't have a problem doing so).

Buffy 4: Grr. Arrgh.
This is where we talk about Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No spoilers though?if you post one by accident, an admin will delete it. This thread is NO LONGER NAFDA. Please don't discuss current Angel events here.
We sure are talking a lot about this.
Does anyone know why there was a timestamp at the start of CWDP? Because it seems to have served absolutely no purpose. There were several theories at the time -
a) Spike wasn't doing the killing/siring, and the timestamp would prove that he'd been rinsing his delicates with Xander at that time.
b) We'd eventually get to see which DP Xander was conversing with in a flashback.
- but they obviously didn't come to fruitition. So, why? They've never done it before or since. Why then? Why was it so important to note the exact day and time?
Why was it important that Joyce show up to tell Dawn Buffy wouldn't choose her? What was the Eye of Botox talking about?
Stop thinking about it. It will make you insane. Really. Come sit by me where all of these things didn't happen, and therefore, everything is hokey dokey.

Is Xander there? Will he bring us drinks and let us watch him build things out of wood?
(I'd snuggle close, but I recall that you're not a snuggler, so I'll just sit primly beside you holding my drink and looking my fill)
I'll sit with you Elena and we can snuggle close and watch Xander do manly things.
Is Xander there?
And he has both eyes, and hasn't been brain sucked by Andrew.
Stop thinking about it. It will make you insane.
I wanna know where the ocean went. There were docks, damnit.
You damn kids, waking me up at 2 in the morning with your questions. *shaky fist*
1) Time Stamp: A stylistic choice that had no meaning.
2) Joyce-to-Dawn: When the going got rough, Buffy sent Dawn away with Xander (Joyce's warning caused Dawn to be prepared with the stun gun - poor puppy's been carrying that thing around for months. You should have seen the time she zapped herself in math class. Talk about humiliating.)
3) Eye-of-Botox: The fault lies with the slayer, because slayerhood shouldn't have been a burden, it should have been a gift of power. And since Buffy can't stay dead...
Shit. I got nothing.
Stop waking me up.
t cuddling askye, sitting primly next to Allyson, watching Xander sand and twinkle both eyes at us
Sorry, Cindy. I think that you're going to have to wank harder.
bitterchick, that would have made for a cool bay or inland salt water lake. And then people would come to swim on top of the hellmouth.

If you ask Cindy, she'll say it was a stylistic choice. When Dawn tasered Xander in the eye socket, his screams set off a an ecological chain of events that caused Sunnydale to relocate itself into the middle of the desert.
