Did you know that Starbucks has bought Seattle's best?

Uncertainty could be our guiding light.

Yeah, they're working on acquiring both Seattle's Best Coffee and Torre Ifa ... uh ... I can't spell the name. It's my understanding that they want to keep both brands separate brands -- they won't really be Starbucks, but the employees will become Starbucks employees.

It hasn't been cleared through the government yet, so nothing's official.

Here endeth the mini-gibberish from a mini-Buffista hardly working in the HR department of the Coffee Company That Ate the World.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

That seems to be a popular strategy these days. Acquire a bunch of different companies or brands that all sell the same thing & keep the names, so that you get the Starbucks drinkers AND the Seattle's Best drinkers. We Americans, we like to think we have choices, but they're all the same thing.

Thrive to spite them

We're getting our very first Starbucks here soon. They are still building it, there was a big to do in the paper about how this might drive the independent coffee houses out of business.

Which I don't see happening because of Starbuck's location--it's not a bad location but it's not near the colleges, the arty district, or right next to the duck pond which is where all the independently owned coffee houses are.

Did Nick B's pilot get pushed off until mid-season?

From NickBrendon.com: FOX announced its 2003-2004 schedule this week, and unfortunately, The Pool at Maddy Breakers won't be on the network's schedule come fall. No word yet on whether it's being considered as a midseason replacement.

Thrive to spite them

When I was looking at the schedules for next fall I didn't see anything that looked like his show and was afraid of that.

Nobody

Thanks bitterchick (and duh - I should have known to check that site). I read a Wanda (Kristin?) column early, early this morning (around 5 am) it was a chat transcript, and it seemed to me that Nick was saying the show didn't get picked up, but I thought I'd read it did. Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. I was hoping things had changed.

Damn. Want more Nick.

Not got a lot to say...

Peets is good. Cali roasts are a lot lighter than Seattle roasts, generally. The bad Seattle places burn the beans, the good ones just get that edge to 'em

Oh man. Perhaps you should come by our place tomorrow after all, Plei. We have Ravensbrew coffee ( www.ravensbrew.com ) and it is the best damn coffee in the world. Peets ain't even close.

If I only had a brain...

My husband hates West-coast very roasty coffee. Is Ravensbrew more roasty than Peets/Starbucks or less?
