I consider myself a newbie here because I finally registered a little over a month ago. (I had heard the WF buzz and found the board somehow, although I don't remember how exactly.) I decided to finally register because this board appeared to be a place for intelligent and funny conversations about more than just Spike is hot or FUCK FOX and I wanted to participate. I would hate to see the character of this board change as that is what drew me here in the first place. OTOH, I don't think I can really complain about new people since I'm basically one myself. I guess I have no real opinion on closing registration because I haven't been here that long - I'm just trying to say that, even to a new person, the character of this board is obviously unique and I would be sad if that changed.

Thanks for speaking up here, Nonian -- I know bureau can be a little much even for those of us who have been here for a while.
Actually what's going on in M'verse with regards to distributing copies of the DVD's is a little different than when come back bring tape. I also made an offer of similar in F2F, and then deleted the offer.
Here's the deal, since they are originating on DVD it falls under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act which criminalizes any attempt to, or use of technology to defeat copy protection. DVD's are encoded and as such copy protected. The feds have been coming down on folks for this infraction.
Also, there was discussion of charging for materials, that should also be deleted to protect b.org. I've been involved in some copyright suits, they are no fun, and a move to even start to bring one against b.org would shut us down financially.

The post I was talking about, which was the one to which Hec, etc. were referring to, was just a request for the aired episodes with an "I'll pay for materials" tacked on.
Which, you know, is iffy. But I still the clarification stands.

I thought he was charging for DVD burns. Still, it's good to be reminded that one copyright suit and b.org would be gone like Fred's innards. [Angel spoiler whited out]
There was a sep item going on in there with the unaired eps. Some folks buying the press kit and then charging around $1.50 to cover costs to duplicate the DVD's of the unaired eps and distribute them. That the discussion that hits the danger zone. It's really the $1.50 charge that puts it completely into the red zone. As soon as money is exchanged it gets really ugly.
I think at the very least we can insist that people take that kind of discussion to private email.
Maybe a disclaimer to that effect as well.
Can you link, ND? I missed those too. I remember people offering to pay, but no one asking.
By the way...
Oh, so now you want to be part of the SOLUTION? (39%)
has taken a commanding lead. I think that's the next thread title.
Here's the message that triggered my warning bells.
