New topic: I think it would make sense if COMM'ed filk went on to the filk page rather than the BRQG. Thoughts?
Hmmm. It could go both places. We could beg Shrift to have two buttons, one for quotes and one for filk quotes. Or just as Betsy said. I've actually got no preference, though I haven't been to the filk site in a while.
I don't want anyone who has a traditional (read: not real name) handle to feel like they're anything but a true Blue part of Buffistahood.
As Jesse just pointed out, the downside of saying many or most people around here use their real names is that it could confuse people when it comes to those posters whose names sound (look) real, but are not.

I think we just need the historical notion that real names were encouraged at TT where many people first joined, but it's not required and there's no particular status assigned to real names like Jesse or clearly imaginary ones like ita.
On the registration page, where we ask people not to use names of various talent, we could also say that it has been board culture to use real names or names that sound real and that we feel it contributes to conversation and a feeling of community.
Only, you know, less pompous.
I'd certainly have felt odd as a delurker if I were the only one with a Horse_With_No_Name style handle as my user name. So, you know, I would have liked the pointer... if I weren't one of those freaks who often uses her own name.

What sort of freak would do a thing like that?
On the whole, the names don't concern me--most of these new folks are just passing through.
FWIW, nobody thinks Nutty is my real name. Even when I was "Nutty Vee", nobody thought Vee was my real name. I'm totally upfront about pseuding -- but I do try to be consistent and not gimmicky, and use my pseud the way most people use nicknames, which might be more to the point where the unease about pseuds is concerned.
Okay, I was Nutley for a couple of days once. It was a brief flirtation with New Jersey.

Worth a thought, but I'm not sure I'd go that far. Some pseudonyms do grab the imagination.
I'm more worried about confusion. If "Buffista X" is an established poster, it's only fair to ask "BuffistaX" to pick a new name.
I'm not sure how to address people with the same names as celebrities. I mean, anyone who's name is honest-to-God "Ronald McDonald" has enough problems in life.
We do OK with all the Jesses. By which I mean the plural of "Jess" not "Jesse." I'm just saying.
True, we aren't easily confused. At least not since the Great David Debate.
Maybe I'm overthinking this one, and we can just deal with it if it happens without putting anything in the FAQ.
