So I finally read the last 400 posts. My two cents? I dislike the social capital concept. IMO it's a snotty concept used as an excuse/reason to be rude. I think a pecking order exists and social capital is just a euphamistic way of saying that. Why not just say it? Also, perhaps the FAQ should acknowledge that there are groups of people who IM all the time, email all the time, journal all the time. Maybe not. Dunno. It was a gobsmacked revelation to me when I found out. I nearly had a heart attack the first time I emailed someone, thinking it was a transgression, having made the assumption that the group dynamics/culture were that the conversations all took place ON the board, so that everyone would have the benefit of what was going on. Um, NOT.

Artless question: Do you participate in many online communities? I've never been in one where people didn't communicate in other ways too. I mean ... we're friends! And lord knows, if you think the LAistas arranging every shared meal onthread is boring, imagine how much worse it'd be, how terrible the noise/signal ratio would be (and poorer the relationships) if all interaction was in one place.

No. B.org was all new to me.

eta: none, this is still the only one. People keep saying, "there are other communities," and I've looked dulsitorily at others but haven't found any that don't have weird threads and restrictions on the # of posts per 15 minute period.

THat's an excellent idea.

The registration confirmation e-mail is not HTML. Because it didn't work on HostRocket, IIRC. As a result, there were problems with wrapping URLs. As opposed to rapping Earls -- what's not to love? Anyhoo, extra links should be considered in that context.

Java -- I think what surprised you isn't actually anything new or different. So I don't know if it should be put in our documentation. It's just sort of a thing.

Hmmm.... You don't need the email to be HTML. Just put the links to the FAQ and Etiquette each on their own line (with an explanation above the links), and they should be short enough to not cause wrapping problems.
