Steph, please respect my decision to move on.
Um, no. Not Steph, but no. You don't get to let the monkey out of the cage and then walk off saying "I'm tired of the monkey, can we please talk about something else?"
A thread to discuss naming threads, board policy, new thread suggestions, and anything else that has to do with board administration and maintenance. Guaranteed to include lively debate and polls. Natter discouraged, but not deleted.

Steph, please respect my decision to move on.

I'll be bold and say I pretty much think really unpleasant things about you, simply because of your tactics through this whole thing. Tactics I think you've been using on purpose, to push people's buttons.
We have words for people that do that here. Words that include "troll", "energy creature", and "banned." If this is the impression you don't mean to give off, Rafmun, you've been pretty unsuccessful.
I didn't realize that how often I, or anyone, posted influences the direction of the board. We used to run totals of who posted the most in a given month -- perhaps we should do so again.
Steph, please respect my decision to move on.
Then move on. My posting whatever the hell I want, as frequently as I want to, is in no way impeding your ability to move the hell on. You move on by not replying to my posts.
It's not all about you, Rafmun. My post about not realizing how fucking detrimental I apparently am to this board was not directed solely to you, but rather to the board as a whole. If it had been directed solely to you, I would have e-mailed you. So get over yourself.
I've been here for this whole discussion and I don't remember any concrete examples being offered up.
Both Jen K and John H. have been mentioned.
The problem is that if you're not in the know, they're not useful examples. I have no idea what happened with Jen, except that I sometimes wondered where she went, and being a space cadet, never asked. And obviously, depending on the circumstances, it may not be pertinent to post the details, or it may not be something people are comfortable with (which is fine, considering that Jen and John aren't here to participate), but it's difficult when not everyone knows the whole history.
Not Steph, but no. You don't get to let the monkey out of the cage and then walk off saying "I'm tired of the monkey, can we please talk about something else?"
Seany, hating to disagree with you, but yeah, he can. It's his choice. Just like everything here is a choice. :)
Oh, I dunno. I'm perfectly glad to respect Rafmun's decision to move on. I am not moving on, because we have some important community stuff under discussion, as painful as that can be.
(In other words, Rafmun? You want to move on, just quit posting on the subject. People might just think you were "unduly influencing" things by trying to make us stop now that you don't want to talk about it any more.)

He can say it, but it doesn't mean the topic should be changed because he wants it to be.
I, for instance, would like him to go away. But that doesn't mean he will.

Yup, and then people will equate you with me, and that's the fucking kiss of death.
The circumstances that prompted John H. to leave don't seem relevant to Rafmun's contention. He chose to because he had badgered Schmoker. IIRC, he acknowledged that.
Thanks for the clarification, Shawn.
Oddly, Megan, I've been here for this whole discussion and I don't remember any concrete examples being offered up. Care to Nilly them for me?
As Dana said Jen K and John H have both left. msbelle has noted that she had left for a few months and Karl posted himself that he has moved on due to board issues. Cindy has left as well. Newbie beej is now gone, possibly dissuading other lurkers from posting. We're not to know, but there are over 1000 registered participants here. Personally, I have cut back my posting because I either am afraid to post, or feel ignored. Maybe that's my failing, I'm happy to acknowledge it, so I'm ready to move on.
Defending feelings is really draining.
