Java, if there is indeed a Buffista--or even a Salon--tradition of using one's real name, I clearly missed the memo, as did many others. I don't think there needs to be a FAQ about it.

Maybe we can make an all points bulletin to collect email addies for a Buffista info list? And when one registers from here on in, they can opt-in to be on the list, whether or not they make their email public?
That way, someone can email a stompy and say, "I'd like to send Jesse a gift basket for being the keeper of the board funds" and a stompy can send the email out?
Or is that too complex and weird? I know it'll be a pain in the ass to collect emails, and would take some time to put it all together.
Deena has most of the information on people.
I do have a large number of e-mail addresses, though certainly not everyone, and a lot of people's likes, dislikes and allergies as well.

Anyone who has not yet been included in the buffista database who would like to be, please e-mail me at my profile address and I will be glad to send you the information.

Allyson, the APB sounds like a good solution.
Deena, would that be a hassel for you to do?
That sounds like a great idea to me, Allyson.
We're talking about collecting e-mail addresses for Buffistas who would like to be part of surprise notify-by-mail activities?
If Deena can't do it, then I would love to. Also, if we decide to go this way, we should maybe add the possibility of having the e-mail address added to the list when a new member registers. if they choose to?
I would have no problem doing that. I have a lot of e-mail addresses already, and could compile them into a mailing list, send it out, make sure those people included want to be on it, or, if Nilly would rather, that's okay too. I don't mind sharing the fun.
OR, we could create a new mailing list like the LA or the Somervillians, where people opt in if they want to be told of the opportunity to be generous, and either Nilly or I could host that list.
If the goal is surprise, however, the addresses can't be on a list like the Laistas, for example.
Because someone on the list might be the surprizeee. So it would have to be managed as individual address, I think.
Unless there's a mechanism I'm not aware of to exclude an individual addressee.
I assumed there was, but, of course, I could be off my noggin. It's not an uncommon occurrence.
