I like books. I just don't want to take on too much. Do they have an introduction to the modern blurb?

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

How about substituting "pants" as in the long running LoTR thread game?

"Istanbul got Pantsed!"

Shit's all sorts of different now.

I like "Istanbul got Spazzed." It's total context. Like "foamy" as someone brought up earlier.

"We have trust issues." Mylar

I love all the verbizing of nouns going on in here. Döppelkat would be so proud. I also love "Istanbul got spazzed." but if it's going to ruffle a lot of feathers, I'd just as soon go with "Istanbul got pantsed." (Keep the verbize alive)

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

Döppelkat would be so proud.
I am so proud!! But I'm against spazzed, though less than spaz (the non-verbed form) for all the reasons stated.

I'm also against the announcements in press, not because of tedium, but because of redundancy. There's few other instances where we post "Hey! We're talking about this in this thread right now!"

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

There's few other instances where we post "Hey! We're talking about this in this thread right now!"

Yeah, but in the case of the deathmatches, they work better if as many participants as possible are in the thread while they are going on, so it's a little different than the rest of the threads.

The notices don't bother me much.

The notices don't bother me much.

I'll write this real tiny, in the hopes that it will convey my meekness and desire for not angry-making:

The last 25 posts in Press span 8 days--the 25 before those, 9 more days. Amongst all the threads here, it's one of the easiest to keep up with, even with the deathmatch notices.

My issue with it isn't the easy-to-keep-up-with aspect, it's the irritation factor of clicking press (because that's where Important Announcements live, so in theory, all of us should be checking Press) only to find that it's another Deathmatch notice.

I can understand announcing it when one character starts, but for continuing an ongoing match, NSM.

This has come up before, when people were posting every single possibly interesting news item in there, but there are people who don't keep up with the board, but keep up with the community, and who ONLY check Press and Beep Me. So, sure, it's the easiest thread to keep up with, but there are good reasons for keeping the signal to noise ratio low, and we know there's a thread where deathmatches occur, we can figure from the rise in post count that they're going on, and we really don't need to have it announced every single time, because at that point, it's noise.

Ah. I think of Press as Just Another Thread to Read--not to mention that most of the actual Important Announcements have no bearing on me personally, anyway.

See, and it (and Beep Me) are specfically designed to NOT be JATtR. Which is why when (Press in particular) they slide that way, I at least get a skosh uncomfortable.

Visilurking

I am a little fuzzy on the difference between Press and Beep Me even though one says General Announcments and one say Personal Announcements. Where would a birth announcement go? A barbecue invitation? A link to pictures from W&HAR?

But I do know they're both tread-lightly, natter-free, not-just-another-thread threads. :)
