Bureaucracy 2: Like Sartre, Only Longer
A thread to discuss naming threads, board policy, new thread suggestions, and anything else that has to do with board administration and maintenance. Guaranteed to include lively debate and polls. Natter discouraged, but not deleted.

Right, but what I'm saying is that it's only right and proper that we just always call the thread "Buffy" rather than "Previously."
Yes, they're all previously, but we should honor the fiesty stake-weilding girlie what inspired us to become Buffistae.
But the previously thread will be broadened to include Angel - so it's not just a Buffy thread. It's the syndication thread for ME shows.
Right. So we have an active, conversation-based need for the Previously thread. We don't have that same need for a Buffy thread (it could be folded into Previously) but there's clearly a popular desire to keep a straight-up Buffy thread, so we probably shouldn't fold those two together.
I think there's two camps on the Buffy issue, and this may be stating the cases strongly: One that think that the main Buffy thread will remain so, and that the discussion about Buffy reurns can migrate there, and Previously can be used for Angel re-runs. The other camp thinks that now that Buffy is over, Previously will be the main place to discuss Buffy as it airs in reruns, and that the main Buffy thread is not necessary anymore. (Though not all Previously-istas may believe that.)
The best bet may just be to change the slug for Previously from:
For discussion of past seasons of Buffy.
to:
For discussion of past seasons of Angel.
That sounds reasonable to me, DX.
Huh. Dark Horizons has reported that Eliza's show has been pushed to a midseason replacement so that FOX can fuck with it and recast and reshoot the pilot.
Wonderfalls is also a midseason show.
Loooks like we'll have jack crap to discuss come October, anyway.
Pulled from Lightbulb because it's more relevant here:
What do you mean by 'bumping'?
Over the past couple months there have been suggestions to eliminate the Previously thread, or make it solely for Angel. I suppose I just don't see why it can't encompass discussions of both syndicated shows. It's not like there hasn't been side-by-side Buffy discussion in both the Previously and Buffy threads, which will probably be true for Angel as well. Make it a thread for both discussions, keep the Buffy and Angel threads open. You'll still get a level of discussion, even it's redundant. It's not like Previously is a drain on resources, considering the level onf inactivity (which will hopefully change with Angel syndication).

Here's what I don't get. Since the unAmericans have seen the final Buffy, there is only "previously on Buffy". The Buffy thread has now become a previously thread, and whether people want to discuss the same episodes in the current Previously thread is their prerogative, but clearly redundant. I'm with Cindy on keeping a Buffy thread, but there's no reason that I can think of not to change the current line on the Previously thread to reflect Angel discussion, which still has new shows.
So the changes we all agree on seem to be...
- Archiving Spoilage Lite: Buffy
- Altering the "previously" slug to make it clear that "previously on Angel" talk goes there
- Combining the Quotables threads post-Deathmatch
Anything else?
Also pulled from Lightbulbs:
To be honest, the whole option of bumping Previously ticks me off a little.
I was going to ask, because I don't really go into the thread, what is the purpose of Previously? I don't understand why one can't discuss syndicated episodes in the main thread. I'd be very happy to have a denizen of Previously explain to me why it is so different so that I can better understand why that difference should be preserved.
