I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

TV doesn't get discussed much in Natter, other than one-offs ("hey, I saw this show last night...") and, randomly, Amazing Race.

What about Quotable? Does that stay open or do we close?

If I were the queen of the world, I'd close it down after the deathmatches are done. (Hey, we could close it with the Ultimate Buffy Quote!)

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

The main problem I can see is that Angel is going into reruns on TNT end of September. That discussion can go into either Previously or Angel. If it goes into Previously and Previously also becomes the main Buffy thread, there might be a high volume of posts on really disparate topics. But if it goes into Angel, it would be interspersed with new episode chatter, and there might be spoilage issues. We could make a Previously on Angel, of course, but that seems kind of proliferationy.

This seems unnecessarily complicated to me. There should be ONE Buffy thread. I think it should be the one we currently call Buffy. It will no longer be NAFDA, as that issue is moot. We no longer need a Previously thread for Buffy, nor a Buffy-dedicated Spoiler thread [eta: nor a Quotables, once the Death Matches end]. Those can be archived and dropped. Previously can be repurposed as an Angel thread or it can be archived and dropped, whichever folks prefer.

Burrell, what about general threads bugs you?

Well, the main thing that bugs me is that I find the conversation that takes place in them disjointed, undeveloped, and basically kinda boring. I no longer bother with Literary, I never really started with Music, and I rarely try to keep up with Movies. I find there is little to no payoff for reading them. This is not the fault of those who post in the threads. It is the nature of the general discussion format. It just doesn't go very far.

Nobody

If at the end of the year Buffy Quotable is dead like a big dead thing, we might think about rolling it into Quotable Angel and (if necessary) adding a Quotable Wonder Falls. But that's for later.

Do we need separate quotable threads for every show we have a thread for. I mean, usually, people blurt out their quotables during post and watch. When something is classic (and YCMV) it ends up in quotable, but would it be horrible to have a general quotable thread, rather than adding one for each show we like?

No.

I think a general TV thread makes a lot of snese, in that we (being a TV watching people) should have some place where we can go to watch some new show, especially if it lasts a while, and we want to talk about it.

We could talk about new shows in Natter, but that would a) only increase the already insane speed with which Natter collects new posts, and b) dilute the discussion of said show.

A general TV thread would allow us to tell much more easily if one of these new shows warrants its own thread.

Up with the sun

No, not at all. In fact, it was almost "General Quotable," only I decided to give a nod to the Timketeers. It's definitely an issue for later, in any case.

Burrell, would your solution be that everything was just in Natter, or that everything people want to talk about has its own thread? I don't think the General threads are perfect, but I do think they're the best compromise we have, given the social and technical arguments against proliferation.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Well, the main thing that bugs me is that I find the conversation that takes place in them disjointed, undeveloped, and basically kinda boring.

However, that's pretty much my feeling on posting the Alias and TAR stuff in Natter, too, so I'd really rather that stuff were in general TV thread. Then if something does break out with a lot of interest, we can propose a separate thread.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

It would seem that Buffistas without Buffy is in the middle of evolving.

I just wonder if it doesn't make sense to spin out a general television thread as an outlet for our teevee habits now that Buffy is gone

I really agree with Allyson that, now that Buffy (our original raison d'etre) is over, this community is going to change.

As the community changes, the structure of it -- which is the threads where we yammer away -- is going to change.

Since right now the only Jossverse show with new episodes on the air (with the exception of 3 Firefly eps that may never air in the US -- and please don't beat me if I'm wrong about that, because I don't go into the Firefly thread) is Angel.

We watch TV. We talk a LOT. There are some ME-verse alumni with shows coming up, and also some non-ME-alumni shows we seem to be liking. Talking about them *could* (though it certainly might not) take over Natter, at least on the nights those shows air.

And also, all the whitefonting of show stuff, like TAR, in Natter, drives me batty.

I am strongly in favor of a general television thread, in the same vein that we have a movies thread and a music thread.

(I say that as an anti-proliferation-ista.)
