What about a Buffyverse Alumni TV thread?
Bureaucracy 2: Like Sartre, Only Longer
A thread to discuss naming threads, board policy, new thread suggestions, and anything else that has to do with board administration and maintenance. Guaranteed to include lively debate and polls. Natter discouraged, but not deleted.
Current Stompy Feet: ita, Jon B, DXMachina, P.M. Marcontell, Liese S., amych
Lyra, make that a formal proposal, and I'll second it.
I may, once I see how discussion goes.
The main problem I can see is that Angel is going into reruns on TNT end of September. That discussion can go into either Previously or Angel. If it goes into Previously and Previously also becomes the main Buffy thread, there might be a high volume of posts on really disparate topics. But if it goes into Angel, it would be interspersed with new episode chatter, and there might be spoilage issues. We could make a Previously on Angel, of course, but that seems kind of proliferationy.
Although I do think that if individual shows seem to find a home in another thread, like OC with whichever one it's in or Stargate in Due South, that that's okay as well.
This bugs me because it makes it very hard to find those discussions if you aren't there when they start. Plus, it's not what the thread is (supposed to be) about -- it's annoying, at least to me, to stop in on the Buffy thread and get 87 new posts about some TV show I have never seen.
Burrell, what about general threads bugs you?
I like the idea of a Buffyverse Alumni thread.
It's general, yet still specific...
Looks longingly at her cake...

I think that's pretty unlikely, though. I can believe that there'll be an upswing of Angel discussion due to the reruns, but Buffy's been in reruns for quite a while. There'll be the occasional bounce, but not so much that I'd expect high-volume cross-conversation.

I kind of like this too, except it may not cohere much as a thread/community/discussion with Gilmore Girls and Tru Calling and whatever sitcom NB gets.

And, really, Buffy reruns and Angel reruns aren't totally disparate topics.
Currently, we have a thread for past Buffy eps, and a thread for current Buffy eps. Since there are no more current eps, the Previously thread is, IMO, the "main" Buffy thread whether we make it official or not.
Creating separate threads for each show is risky because any of them could get canceled
Right. My general thinking is that we have a home for talk of many sorts, until and unless there is a breakout show that everyone is talking about, drowning the rest of the thread. That breakout is due for a proposal to get its own thread. (Actually, what worries me most is the idea that we could have 2-3 threads for every TV show we watch: main, spoilers, unamerican, previously. I am sort of thinking we'll need to re-jigger our thinking on spoilers in future, for mere convenience's sake, and require most/all spoilers for most/all shows in a single thread. But that's a bridge we'll burn when we get to it.)
Also, housekeeping on dead shows is a good idea.
Concur. I'm generally for a TV thread, although it's also one of those that was specifically mentioned as Do Not Open Till September. Which, hey, is 10 days away, and I should remind you all now that my birthday is the 9th.
I'd like to hear opinions on a TV thread, because my thinking on the matter is mostly shallow and "Yeah, okay".
And, really, Buffy reruns and Angel reruns aren't totally disparate topics.
No, not totally.
Honestly, it's not something that I would see as some major huge stumbling block, I was just sort of thinking out loud about what it would mean for us to shut down the Buffy thread.

Same here. I don't watch much TV and don't go into Natter, so I may be underestimating the impact this will have on people who do watch TV and currently post about it in Natter.
BUT... if we made "previously" the sole buffy thread; cut "buffy spoilage light"; cut the main buffy thread; and added a general TV thread, we're actually still down one.
What about Quotable? Does that stay open or do we close?
