Bureaucracy 2: Like Sartre, Only Longer
A thread to discuss naming threads, board policy, new thread suggestions, and anything else that has to do with board administration and maintenance. Guaranteed to include lively debate and polls. Natter discouraged, but not deleted.

And how "ex" is "ex"? I mean, Allyson made a list of folks and their current shows that had names I didn't recognize on it.
That's why I'd think one thread for ME stuff is plenty, as Plei suggested. If his new one turns out to be the new Firefly, then we could put the other ME project stuff elsewhere if needed. But I'd rather wait until that happens before creating extra new threads.
Can Alias find a home somewhere here? Maybe in Smallville? (I don't hang out there so I don't really know the atmosphere.) It doesn't seem to have the kind of discussion levels that would require a whole new thread.
I'm a fan of letting things happen more or less organically. LOTR got its thread because it quickly became clear that it was going to dominate Natter and needed it's own home. If other shows have the kind of lively discussion going on that would merit that, we can address that when it arises, rather than throwing up new threads just in case.
Similarly, I don't think we're near ready to discuss Who We Are When There's No Buffy. We'll find that out in the weeks and months following the show's end, but we'll never settle it before. Cleaning up some of the redundant Buffy threads is probably a good idea, and adding the new Tim one seems reasonable, but I'd rather avoid changing much more at this stage.
The whole Alias thing was just an example, but I can go with the wait and see what is needed approach.
I think a three part ballot as suggested could work very nicely, but I'd certainly wait until after the finale to even propose it.
Shows by ex-ME people, different, though. But how "by" is "by"? Writes for? Show runs? Created?
That's one of my problems, too. And what if someone leaves a show they helped create? Does the thread become unnecessary, if people are still posting in it?
Well, the thing is, I hardly post in any of the non-admin threads but natter, so how I see things could be wrong. BUT: I think one thread for ex-ME shows is plenty(*). Maybe Tim's show gets its own thread, but I'd want to hold off til we see how things are going. Possibly one HoYay TV thread, which would replace Smallville and Due South (um, right?).
(*) I imagine this thread would pretty quickly turn into a general TV thread, which I guess would be OK, but let the record show I'm not overall in favor of the TV thread idea.
I don't think we have to vote on closing spoilage lite or on merging Previously and Buffy NAFDA. We may have to vote on what to CALL to previously/buffy NAFDA thread and whether or not to allow rumors about possible spin-offs as they haven't aired.
I actually, as a reader of only the smallville thread, think it could easily get rolled in with Due South unless there are objections from the posters there (Dana, Theo, Emily et als?)
Here's what I don't understand...
Why create a "Graduates" thread, a totally separate thread for Tim's new show, and yet anti-any other show.
That makes no sense to me at all.
I don't know, this discussion is giving me funky-unpleasant vibes, and seems ripe to be even more divisive than our original voting discussion were.
Tim's show, initially at least, we can be pretty sure will be of high interest. The other ME stuff is more of an unknown. If Joss suddenly comes out with a new show we've never heard tell of or something along those lines happens it could be pretty big, but right now I don't see more than occasional discussions happening. I'd think that kind of stuff could be folded into Tim's thread pretty easily.
Maybe I'm forgetting something? Is the argument for two threads just that Tim deserves his own? Fair enough. Is there more to it?
Sean, I don't think buffistas.org is a generic pop culture board. I think it's ME-focused. I'm not completely happy with the thread proliferation we've already got, but I'm not going to run around trying to get people to shut down existing threads. I do think it's worthwhile to think about when and why we are (potentially) starting new threads, and I think Tim Minear gets grandfathered into our ME focus, since that's how we got to know him. (Yes, I know he did other stuff, but you know what I'm saying, right?)
I don't see how it's fair enough that Tim gets his own thread. How could we possibly have any idea if Wonder Falls will last any longer than any other new show?
I can see the reasoning for a Graduates thread, I can't see why we should have both that and a separate thread for Wonder Falls.
Sean, I don't think buffistas.org is a generic pop culture board.
I agree, Jesse. I just don't see how two seperate threads is warranted.
Yay Tim and all that, but two threads seems very excessive to me.
