Does MCU include Just Marvel Cinematic Universe, not comics?
If yes, then what is the spoiler policy on talking about things that happened in the comics (possibly decades ago) that inform how people think the MCU is going to develop a character or plotline?
As a spoilerphile who rarely reads comics, I really love it when the comics-knowledgeable chime in with "Oh, that background character is so-and-so, originally she was [main character's] mentor but in a later version she turned evil. I wonder if we'll see more of her in the next movie/episode/spinoff series." But I can see where extra-MCU knowledge could be considered spoilery by others.
I would put anything on the screen in blackfont, comics stuff in white.
It just occurred to me that it was ita who set up the mail aliases so that votes@b.org would forward to the vote counter. Sigh. I think we'll be OK since I'm pretty sure Nilly counted votes the last time we did this, but just in case I sent a message to votes@b.org to confirm.
tl:dr: Nilly, please confirm that you got the email I just sent to you.
Proposal One:
Add a new thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This includes movies, television series, and streaming media.
Spoiler policy- white font for two weeks for movies and streaming content which is presented all at once
White font until east coast airing for content on television or streaming content presented weekly.
Talking about comics in context of the MCU is welcomed, but plots and character details that have not appeared in the MCU. should be white fonted.
Proposal Two: Add a thread for shows presented as streaming only- for example Netflix Originals, Amazon Prime Streaming, Hulu Plus, Yahoo and other independent stations.
Spoiler Policy: White Font two weeks for content presented all at once, upon airing when presented weekly
Poll Question:
I think we should revisit our spoiler policies on the board to update them to reflect the asynchronous way people consume media
If anyone has comments before Jon posts, feel free.
I don't know if there's a way to draw a hard line, but it seems awkward to me to whitefont discussion from the comics about things that have already happened in the MCU, e.g., "In the comics, his secret identity is an accountant, but in the MCU, he's a circus performer."
I thought we were only discussing Proposal One right now. I thought Proposal Two would be a separate discussion/vote.
You're right ginger! I will reword that
Polter- we were confused too, because it was fairly unclear who the seconds were for ( since everyone seconded me, and I didn't propose anything) Since neither original proposer said they would craft the ballot when Jon asked, I assumed I was doing it for both. Personally I don't care either way.
My understanding was that both would be on this ballot.
Also, I'm busy putting a toddler to bed, but I'll be back in the next couple of hours to put the ballot up and start voting.
But I'm not sure what the point of a non-binding "poll question" is. I thought that's why we haggled over the proposal/voting system. If some people want to revisit the spoiler policy, let's discuss it in Bureaucracy and make a concrete proposal if it's warranted.
