That works better for me, obviously, so thanks. I wasn't trying to speak for anyone else though.
I'm just a crazy little lurker, but thank you for bringing up that adjustment in wording. I was trying to write that post, but failed. I wish I were the type of person that didn't get hurt by things like this, but I am not, and I am sure there are others. I understand that shit happens, and I sympathize with people to whom it happens, but I am unable to get past it anyway (call it the downside of ISTJ-ness). I don't participate in exchanges like this for that reason, because I know myself too well.
Just so I have this clear in my mind, at the end of March if anyone remains ungifted, Goodbye and Good Riddance would remain open for another month for the round of pinch-gifting (which would go on until the end of April?)
-t brings up a good point.
No, I think GB&GR would close March 31st and any remaining thanks for pitch hitters could go in beep me.
Oh. Hm. That idea troubles me, but I'm going to have to think about it for a bit to figure out why.
Should the pinch hitting plan kick in a week or two before the thread closes, so that it can be organized in thread?
Well, everyone could still use GB&GR to post about their year, and a lot of people do long before they're gifted -- and some people don't participate, anyway. It still feels a little weird to me, too, and possibly not the best use of Beep Me.
If nothing else, I think it points up late gifts more than the giver might like.
FTR, I think thank you notes via email would be fine.
I would rather not involve Beep me in this plan, however it works out. Using Beep me for things that could be cross posted or posted elsewhere except for a time limit doesn't seem right.

I like this. I think the threat of thread closing on 3/31 will be a bigger spur to people than a less formal "get your pinch hit requests in now" process a few weeks earlier, and keeping the thread for one more month wouldn't be too onerous. (And if a month isn't long enough to get your pinch hit gift out, don't volunteer.)
Could we move it back instead? Make the end of February the pinch hit deadline and close the thread at the end of March?
