Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Woe to the fucking wicked.

Well, we need clear bright lines, but, really, how can we have cross-pollination with such narrow categories? t puts hands on hips I mean, really, "vampire shows" is too narrow. It is clearly far more sensible and will create a more vibrant community if we do "immortal shows": "supernatural entities shows", though, man, that's just so big...

Gotta say, that standard of deadness is very Buffista-ish.

I do believe in killing the messenger, you know why? Because it sends a message. ~ Damon Salvatore

I mean, really, "vampire shows" is too narrow.

maybe we should make an "UnDead American shows" thread because it seems like we're going to have quite a few "immortal" shows to watch in the fall.

p.s. i'm with le nubian about the VM thread. if we're definitively going to have a Network Drama thread, i don't have a problem closing the VM one, but if not what's the rush? when the dvds come out, it would be nice to know i could pop in somewhere and talk about the extras and such without getting lost amidst all the other talk in Natter(which i very rarely venture into because i just can't keep up).

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

maybe we should make an "UnDead American shows" thread because it seems like we're going to have quite a few "immortal" shows to watch in the fall.

Not for long, we won't, if the couple of pilots I've seen are any indication.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

Snerk. Indeed.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

If we vote not to close the thread on this ballot, it can't be proposed again for 6 months, is that right? Just to make sure I know what's what.

What is even happening?

-t, that's right.

  • If we vote to close it now, it will close now.
  • If we vote to close it a month after the DVDs are released, and the DVDs are released on schedule, we will be closing the thread around November 23.
  • If we vote against closing the thread, we can't talk about it for 6 months, which brings us to around the first of the year (or about 6 weeks after November 23).

i'm with le nubian about the VM thread. if we're definitively going to have a Network Drama thread, i don't have a problem closing the VM one, but if not what's the rush?

It's not a rush, per se. I'm just of the rip-off-the-bandage school of thought. Also, I'd rather have open threads for shows that are on the air, than keep old threads open out of nostalgia, or just in case conversation bubbles up.

Personally, it's easier for me to vote in favor of new threads if we don't have half dead threads lying around. If Rob makes a deal with D.C., we'll be able to discuss the comic books in our comics thread. If he makes a film, we'll be able to discuss it in our film thread.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

I'm not quite sure I understand, but why does the limited existence of a VM thread have an effect on whether people decide to vote for new threads? Regardless, the VM thread's time is short. Giving people some time to wrap up discussion doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

Whatever, voting will happen soon. My complaint is only that I think this proposal was premature.

I'm sorry it feels that way. It felt the opposite to me, like we were dragging our feet, and VM is one of my favorite shows, ever. The series finale aired May 22. Since May 23, there's only been 70 posts. They were pretty light where topic is concerned, too.

eta...

Stompies, I don't know how much I'll be around today/tomorrow. If I don't post in this thread again about this ballot, the following ballot wording is fine by me:

This proposal is to close the Veronica Mars thread.

Item 1: Do you want to close the Veronica Mars thread?

yes
no
no preference

Item 2: If the board votes to close the Veronica Mars thread, when should it close?

Immediately
One month after the season 3 DVDs are released
no preference

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

We don't want to create and keep a million threads-- it taxes our resources and changes our character. There's little to no discussion of the show in there now, and I think only two people have indicated an intent to discuss something that will occur in the future. That's enough evidence to close a thread on.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Then I think it's fine to close it now, and any post-DVD discussion can land where it lands.
