Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Visilurking

Hey, lightbulb thread is open! Well might as well drop in my two cents while I'm poking my lurky head in.

For me any tv thread that isn't specific to a particular show is going to be about as useful as Natter for discussing tv episodes. Because all I'm going to do is threadsuck and word-find to read discussion on whichever show(s) I'm watching, and it's unlikely I would be watching every show discussed in the thread (with the exception of Minearverse). In fact, I prefer non-thread specific shows to be in Natter so I don't have to bother subscribing and reading multi-show threads. In short, grouping shows together by genre, channel, or demographic is not going to do anything for me (or the 400 lurkers who think just like me).

That being said, I appreciate that the board must struggle between the proliferationists and anti-liferationists in order to keep thread sprawl to a minimum and only after a reasonably strong showing of support. I just wonder if creating mash-up threads as a concession to both sides merely ends up satisfying the few while causing much teeth-gritting of the many.

FTR, my selfish vote is yay because Heroes is definitely Buffista thread-worthy.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I appreciate you picking one battle at a time to fight, and the one dearest to your heart, Theo.

I fear, however, that the idea that a show with great volume of conversation should be moved from BS, instead of being seen as a success of BS, and a boon to it. I don't think any of the shows should have a thread, honestly, and that's not the tech-fear in me speaking.

Separating LotR from overwhelming movies made sense to me. Making threads for Lost (was that ever in Boxed Set? Or were they still playing the rational card) and VM so that people wouldn't have to scan Natter for their posts--well, it's not something I care about/need, but it seems like a very different decision than this too.

The BS thread is there to talk about Heroes. We just made it way early.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

I think that the higher volume from many shows *is* a good thing for BS.

Personally, I temporarily unsub from the thread a lot because I am behind in one show or another, but I am also exposed to a hell of a lot of other shows I would have missed because of the thread.

It's a huge a tradeoff but, for me, it is worth it.

Our wings are not tired

I used to follow BS but have ended up leaving it for a while now because I just can't keep up with that many shows. I think that's the thing for me, it feels like it has hit a point where there are just too many shows in the one thread. I'd be all for any one or two of them getting out of there just to make it a bit more manageable for me. I'd love to discuss BSG and the Stargates, but I just can't deal with all the shows in there together. What this discussion makes me wonder if it isn't so much about one show dominating so much as it is about just having hit critical mass of too many shows in the one thread. If spinning out Heros will help release this pressure then I'm all for it.

That is sense making.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

At this stage, would anyone think the less of me if I revealed that what actually got me going on this Heroes thread business was Future!Hiro appearing to me on a T trolley and telling me that there was going to be a dedicated thread soon on the Buffistas board?

Of course, all the good and valid arguments in favor of it occurred later to me.

Yes, that's where I'm at too.

Hee, Theo!

What is even happening?

Theo, I nearly spat coffee on my Blackberry. You've got my vote, based on that pitch, alone. Future Hiro shall not be denied.
