(Note that if this were the Theodistas Board, we'd definitely have a Dirty Jobs thread.)
Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!
We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!
Does anybody have a unique-word-counter program available? If we fed in the text of the current Boxed Set thread, I bet the Top 100 Words would include Heroes, Supernatural, Dean, Sam, Winchester, Cheerleader, Hiro, Haitian, Stargate.
And Jack. We probably should just have a Jack thread, for shows that have Jacks in them.
I would be quite startled to see Haitian and Cheerleader up there.
Well the problem for me with the Heroes is that I want to watch it but probably won't have time until (I assume) it comes out on DVD before the 2nd season. So I have to skim Boxed Set like mad to find BSG discussion and stay as unspoiled as possible for Heroes (which I haven't really succeeded in doing). It wouldn't bother me at all to skip by Heroes discussion in the thread if I just didn't care for or about Heroes.
This is exactly my problem. I'm dying to read & post about BSG, but I haven't had time to watch Heroes this season. I fully intend to buy it on DVD as soon as it comes out, so I really don't want to be spoiled on it. I made the mistake of going in Boxed Set in a couple of months ago because I was giddy about BSG and was inadvertently spoiled for a big character plot point in Heroes. I haven't been back since. I know that we can't have a thread for every show, but taking Heroes out of Boxed Set would make a huge difference for me personally.
It's the overlap that bothers me, as well as the possibility of being spoiled for something I'm timeshifting. Do people feel that talk about Heroes and Supernatural crowds out talk about other shows? I don't like to interrupt a conversation about one show to yak about another; lots of people are talking about the BSG episode in progress when I want to talk about TDF after the episode ends, so I don't talk about it as much as I'd like to. Maybe others feel that way about SPN and/or Heroes?
Isn't there as much talk about Supernatural and BSG as there is about Heroes? I understand not wanting to create a bajillion new threads - or even three - but isn't there precedent for giving a show its own thread when it generates a storm of posts? That's what led to the creation of the Lost and Veronica Mars threads, right? And if those two threads seem to be winding down now (I don't watch them, so I don't really know how many posts there are about them), perhaps they could be re-absorbed into Boxed Set and replaced with SPN and Heroes threads.
And if BSG is really going on a nearly year-long hiatus soon, well, that solves that, at least for now.
eta there were lots of posts while I was writing this.

Don't know if this will be useful to anybody, but it amused me...

I love that Evil scored so high on the list.
There is more Jack than Evil. Heh.
And there is more me than There! Woo!
I skim most everything not Heros in BS (heeeheee) because I don't have cable and SPN never got me. On one hand, I can see the desire for some differentiation. (Dresden Files? What's that?) but on the other, ok... it's all Kat's fault in natter that I started watching the OC due to whitefont, so I can't really argue shit. I.READ.EVERYTHING. Even when I claim not to. I'm too efficient.
Bottom line is I read too much, skim too much, often irrelevent and I really have no preference. But I will say the crossover inthread does have the potential for drawing new viewers from the current population. At the same time, the prevalence probably has the potential for driving people off, annoyed with having to skim so much.
Summation: I have no preference, but now you have my useless thoughts!
sarameg, The OC is not my fault!
I kind of like the idea of broadcast TV vs. cable TV.
