Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Yup. It's pretty spotty that memory of mine. Good thing that vote didn't have a third option.

why are people against voting on it, when you can vote no? I can understand being against it and suggesting that people bothered by it just block people the puppeteers and the puppets, but I do not understand the resistance to voting on it.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

We had a referendum on the word "majority". It was defined as 50% + 1.

Also, the proposer being the one to draft the ballot means that yes, a proposer could create a ballot with only two choices, as follows:

Proposed: that all pens must be ballpoint pens.

___ yes, all pens must be ballpoint pens

___ no, we only use pencils here

Those of us who like fountain pens can object, and start a campaign to the effect that nobody should vote, to fail the minimum voter turnout.

Alternately, the proposer could offer 47 choices, all of them written excellently.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

I hate to see a rule made against jokes people don't like

Completely agreed.

typed 'cock puppet' and can't use one of those either, unless I'm allowed to use a finger as a substitute

So so so porny. And, darlin', you can use whatever substitute you want.

Our wings are not tired

I guess I just see this as a slippery slope. We start taking every little issue to a vote.

I've got issues with folks talking about how they are stealing intellectual property. Should I bring that up for a vote to ban that discussion?

I get annoyed by the overdone numberslutting (I though it was cute the first bajillion times, now I'm over it), should I bring that to a vote?

I guess I'm worried about precedent here.

What is even happening?

why are people against voting on it, when you can vote no? I can understand being against it and suggesting that people bothered by it just block people the puppeteers and the puppets, but I do not understand the resistance to voting on it.
Is anyone, still against voting it? They may be, and I've just skimmed over the objections. I'm not. I am just campaigning for the "no change" vote. Now I have to go check my last post. I meant to end by stating that explicitly, and am wondering if I forgot. Drew seems to be recommending a few options on the ballot, rather than strictly against voting.

The suggested "rule" or "suggestion" is not saying people can't make or attempt at making jokes.

Actually as it stands now, the suggestion is for wording to be added somewhere that requests that anyone having multiple log-ins identify themselves either in their tag or profile.

I'm kinda in both camps. I hate to see us start voting all the time. However, if this goes to vote, I want to make sure that all the options are on the table.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

We start taking every little issue to a vote.

Every little issue that gets a proposal and 4 seconds. Given how averse people often seem to be to making proposals, I don't think we're gonna be swamped with votable isssues.
